Deadpool & Wolverine Hint Jon Favreau’s Surprising Return as Foggy Nelson in the MCU!

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again.

Although Foggy Nelson suffered a heartbreaking end in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Daredevil: Born Again, Deadpool & Wolverine have hinted at an ideal method for his comeback, given his unexpected fate. Known as Matthew Murdock’s most memorable sidekick, Foggy Nelson has been a constant presence throughout all live-action Daredevil projects, serving as the boyhood friend and legal partner to the Man Without Fear. In the MCU, Elden Henson portrayed Foggy Nelson first in Netflix’s Daredevil series and later in 2025’s Daredevil: Born Again; however, this appearance came with a startling and dreadful turn of events.

There are various speculations circulating about how the cherished character Foggy Nelson could reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), even though Daredevil: Born Again’s premiere seemed to bid him a tearful goodbye. It’s anticipated that Elden Henson may resume his role in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 or other upcoming MCU productions, but an alternative scenario is feasible due to Marvel Studios’ introduction of the Multiverse Saga in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. This interconnected movie series links the MCU with some of 20th Century Fox’s iconic Marvel films, such as the 2003 Daredevil and 2005 Elektra.

Elektra’s Return In Deadpool & Wolverine Suggests Jon Favreau Could Also Reprise His Daredevil Role

Jennifer Garner Returned As Elektra From The 2000s In Deadpool & Wolverine

Despite Ben Affleck not returning to his Daredevil role in “Deadpool & Wolverine”, Jennifer Garner did come back as Elektra Natchios. Previously played by Élodie Yung in the MCU’s Defenders Saga, this comeback offers redemption for her once-wasted Marvel hero. The appearance of Garner in “Deadpool & Wolverine” hints at more characters from 2003’s “Daredevil” and 2005’s “Elektra” possibly reappearing, such as a new iteration of Foggy Nelson, previously played by Jon Favreau before Elden Henson.

In a new development, it’s worth noting that Jon Favreau gained significant recognition for his portrayal of Harold “Happy” Hogan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as well as for directing the films Iron Man (2008) and Iron Man 2 (2010). Interestingly, before venturing into the MCU, Jon Favreau played the character Foggy Nelson opposite Ben Affleck’s Daredevil in a film five years prior. With Marvel Studios delving into the multiverse, there’s an opportunity for Favreau to reprise his role as Foggy Nelson.

The return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra in the multiverse suggests that the reality of Daredevil and Elektra is valid within this universe, implying that Jon Favreau’s character Foggy Nelson does exist somewhere out there, paving an intriguing way for Foggy to reappear in the MCU.

What Jon Favreau Has Said About Returning To The MCU As Foggy Nelson

Jon Favreau Is Open To Returning As Foggy Nelson

At present, Jon Favreau is the continuous actor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), appearing in each phase since his introduction in 2008’s “Iron Man.” His latest role was in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but instead of playing Foggy Nelson, he reprised his usual MCU character, Happy Hogan. Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, there’s a strong possibility that Happy will return for more appearances. Interestingly, Favreau has also expressed interest in reviving the role of Foggy Nelson. In an interview with CBR at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, Favreau hinted at the possibility of a multiverse appearance.

Indeed, I portray several Marvel figures, including Happy Hogan and Foggy. In the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” I shared the screen with Charlie Cox as Happy. Managing all these roles can be quite challenging.

While Jon Favreau remains tight-lipped about the prospect of reprising his role as Foggy Nelson, he hasn’t shut the door on the possibility. Given that Favreau last portrayed Foggy in 2003’s Daredevil, a potential return in upcoming films like Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars would mark his comeback after more than two decades. If this were to happen, it would not only extend Jon Favreau’s impressive MCU run but also bring back one of the most beloved secondary Daredevil characters who met an untimely end in Daredevil: Born Again.

In the wake of a significant transformation in the series, it has been officially confirmed that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson will reprise their roles as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson in Daredevil: Born Again. This news is thrilling for the upcoming revival, however, it’s worth noting that Elden Henson was specifically brought back to depict his previously planned demise on-screen, instead of leaving it unexplained between Daredevil season 3 and Born Again. The series premiere of Daredevil: Born Again showed Foggy being brutally killed by Wilson Bethel’s character, Bullseye, who was hired by Vanessa Fisk to assassinate both Foggy and his client, Benjamin Cafaro.
