Shocking Truth: Are Maddie and Reagan Twins in ‘You’ S5?

In the fifth season of “You,” Reagan and Maddie Lockwood join the cast as siblings, but despite their shared genetic makeup, they have distinctly unique personalities.

In the concluding installment of the suspenseful television series, “You,” Penn Badgley once again steps into the shoes of Joe Goldberg, the compulsive protagonist. Following the events of Season 4, Joe manages to reestablish his identity, regain custody of his son Henry, and make his way back to New York City.

Without his partner, Kate Lockwood, none of this would have transpired. After Joe’s actions that led to Kate avenging her father’s death, she ascended as the formidable CEO of the Lockwood Corporation. Now, she is unwaveringly committed to fulfilling her pledge and dedicating her efforts towards charitable endeavors.

Indeed, this situation occasionally stirs dissent among some employees, such as Kate’s half-sister and Lockwood’s Chief Financial Officer, Reagan. Madison, or Maddie for short, may not share the same level of ambition as her twin sister Reagan, but she harbors her own objectives. Caution: potential spoilers follow!

Are Maddie and Reagan really twins?

Remarkably, it’s the same actress, Anna Camp, who portrays both Maddie and Reagan Lockwood in You Season 5, despite their distinct personalities.

You might recall Sarah Newlin from the HBO vampire show True Blood, as well as Aubrey Posen in the Pitch Perfect films. Additionally, she has made appearances in Murder at Yellowstone City, The Good Wife, and Hysteria.

The actress discussed her contrasting characters with Netflix, mentioning that Reagan disapproves of Kate holding the top position at Lockwood Corp. She believes she should have had it from the start.

By the close of the day, Reagan opted to go above and beyond, taking every necessary step to achieve it.

Reagan appears quite reserved, to put it mildly, despite boasting an impressive career, a husband named Harrison (portrayed by Pete Ploszek), and their daughter Gretchen. However, according to Camp, the costume she wore assisted her in fully embodying the character.

She’d tied her hair back tautly, donned black attire, and with a surge of self-assurance and eagerness, she strolled about the set, ready to perform the scene, as she put it.

When it comes to Maddie, she’s on a journey to discover purpose in her existence. Her favorite pastimes include socializing at parties and playing coy with Joe, whom she affectionately refers to as “Boo-boo”. However, unlike her twin, she has a more compassionate disposition.

Camp stated that Maddie hasn’t yet encountered her soulmate, and it seems she hasn’t fully discovered her own path in life due to constant belittling from Reagan. This results in significant friction and rivalry between them.

What happens to the twins in You Season 5?

In the end, it is revealed that Maddie unintentionally causes harm to Reagan (I’ll explain more about this later), but ultimately finds contentment in her life with Harrison and Gretchen. Rest assured, Maddie is not malicious –– everything that happened was largely due to Joe and Reagan’s actions.

It appears that Reagan is attempting to orchestrate the impeachment of Kate from the Lockwood company because he’s displeased with the numerous charitable contributions she’s made as CEO.

Despite Kate’s opposition, Joe mistakenly captured Maddie instead of Reagan, unknowingly trapping her in his reliable enclosure. The confusion arose due to the circumstances surrounding the abduction: at that time, Maddie was involved romantically with Reagan’s husband, Harrison.

The couple were involved in a romantic relationship, but it appears more scandalous in writing. Later, Maddie clarifies that her affection for Harrison has always been genuine, while Reagan never felt the same way towards him, suggesting their marriage might be purely for appearances.

Additionally, Reagan made Maddie carry their child to maintain a specific appearance, resulting in Gretchen being biologically Maddie’s offspring.

Ultimately, Joe succeeds in trapping both twins inside a cage, and he informs Maddie that the only chance for her to survive is by administering an insulin injection to Reagan. Since Maddie has diabetes, she can accomplish this by using her insulin pen.

Initially, she resists fulfilling his distorted wishes. But later, during a heated dispute inside the confinement, Reagan tries to manipulate Maddie into thinking that the surrogacy was her own suggestion.

In a startling disclosure, Maddie shares that she came perilously close to losing her life during childbirth. However, Reagan displays no trace of regret or concern about the situation.

She expresses, “Given what happened, my dear, both you and Harrison were at risk of losing your lives. The doctors warned us that we might face a heart-wrenching decision: choosing between your life and the baby’s.

However, let me tell you this: If that situation had arisen, it would have been one of the simplest choices I’ve ever made. It’s been a full week since you walked in here, and no one seems to have noticed your absence. That’s because you are replaceable, Maddie.

“The lesser twin. The spare. You are completely and utterly irrelevant.”

In the end, when faced with a choice between their own life and Reagan’s, Maddie chooses to live, administering an insulin injection to Reagan.

Whenever Joe sets me free, I’m compelled to masquerade as Reagan, employing the surveillance videos of her slaying her sister to maintain my silence, all under his watchful eye. (First person perspective)

Does Maddie die?

In addition to reaching the finale in You Season 5, Maddie experiences a joyful conclusion. Moreover, she rekindles her relationship with both Harrison and Gretchen, and to add to their bliss, she’s expecting not one but two babies.

Previously, just as Joe’s scheme was about to collapse, he cleverly set up Harrison and Maddie for the murder of Reagan. But Harrison chose to take the fall, claiming sole responsibility for the crime, thereby sparing Maddie from any punishment.

After finding herself all by herself and heartbroken, she eventually sought solace at Mooney’s bookstore following a series of unfortunate incidents involving alcohol. In a fit of anger and vengeance, she imprisoned Joe in the basement and ignited a blaze within the bookstore.

In the fire, no one perishes, and it’s only when Joe is apprehended for his extensive criminal history that Harrison gains his freedom. As told by Bronte/Louise, who is Joe’s most recent love interest in the Netflix series, “The charges against Harrison Jacobs for the murder of his wife Reagan have been dismissed.

“Despite spending 48 hours in jail, that clueless guy somehow left with a prison ink; meanwhile, Maddie Lockwood faced trials for both arson and her sister’s murder but under unique circumstances, she avoided serving any time.

As a gamer, I’ve just learned some surprising news about one of my favorite characters. She confessed that she battled a tough enemy – pill addiction – and bravely sought rehab to defeat it. Recently, she organized an unforgettable farewell for her sister, a Viking-themed funeral by Long Island Sound, costing $2 million. Now,
