Four years following his first appearance in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Carl Lumbly’s character Isaiah Bradley reappeared in the 2025 movie release of “Captain America: Brave New World.” Regrettably, the Korean War veteran who received the super soldier serum was manipulated by Samuel Sterns’ plans and found himself brainwashed to attempt assassinating President Thaddeus Ross. Despite being incredibly fit at an advanced age due to the serum in his system, Lumbly shared that the emotional strain of the big action sequence with its running sequences took a heavy toll on him.
In my recent interaction, I chatted with the actor who’s associated with “Captain America: Brave New World.” The digital release, along with the Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD, is scheduled for May 13th. During our discussion, I inquired about the toughest or most demanding aspect of filming the White House action scene. He shared his thoughts on this matter right away.
In essence, I’d say it boils down to this: Running, you could say, is my straightforward response. You see, no matter how enhanced or powerful he might have been, he simply couldn’t escape the harsh truth that was his reality. There came a moment when he found himself grappling with the consequences of actions he didn’t fully comprehend, actions he had unwittingly taken. This country, which he knew all too well, had once again trapped him in its web.
He was falsely accused, not just of doing something wrong, but also of harboring thoughts that were never his to begin with. Left alone with his thoughts, he awaited his destiny, his life now in the hands of others. This, my friend, is the story I find myself drawn to.
More Captain America: Brave New World Coverage

In the case of Captain America 4, it’s been disclosed that the home release won’t feature a crucial scene shown in the trailer. Many theories have emerged as to why this is so.
Discussion on the revised version of “Captain America: Brave New World” has been a significant point. Recently, Giancarlo Esposito shared insights about how his character was put together at the last minute.
Recall that Isaiah Bradley was imprisoned for disobeying orders and bravely venturing behind enemy lines during the Korean War to save other Black super soldiers. He was subjected to experiments by both the U.S government and HYDRA for three decades, with his captivity lasting only a fraction of that time due to a nurse falsifying his death certificate and helping him escape. Being incarcerated once more for actions beyond his control was emotionally devastating for him. As Carl Lumbly put it, no amount of running could alleviate the dire predicament he’d been coerced into.
For Isaiah, the positive aspect was having Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as his ally in the series ‘Brave New World‘. According to Lumbly, this new Captain America had a contrasting view on life compared to Isaiah, which fueled his determination to clear his friend’s name. This was something that Isaiah, who had accepted his fate of living out the rest of his days in prison, did not have. In simpler terms, Anthony Mackie’s character provided hope and drive for Isaiah’s innocence.
In this unique situation, I find myself fortunate to be under the care of none other than Sam Wilson, who embodies Captain America. The realm where Sam thrives is far removed from the one Isaiah once knew. Sam possesses an agency and abilities that Isaiah never dared to imagine, yet witnessing such possibilities has undeniably influenced his perspective. It transcends the idea of Sam saving me; it’s about Sam navigating a world that seems utterly chaotic to me, but he manages, which gives me hope that perhaps I too can learn to adapt and survive in such an environment.
In many instances with Marvel films, it’s typical for good to ultimately prevail. In this case, Sam Wilson, Joaquin Torres, and their comrades uncovered Samuel Sterns’ wrongdoings, leading to Ross’ Red Hulk rampage being halted and the release of Isaiah Bradley. Whether or not Carl Lumbly will portray Isaiah again in a future Marvel movie or series is uncertain, but I have high hopes that Sam’s actions will encourage Isaiah to be more transparent with the world.
After wrapping up “Captain America: Brave New World”, the upcoming Marvel movie is “Thunderbolts”, set to hit theaters on May 2. A month later, you can catch Carl Lumbly reprising his role on the big screen alongside Tom Hiddleston in Mike Flanagan’s film, titled “The Life of Chuck“.
