Oblivion Remastered’s Leveling System Finally Lets You Level Up Any Way You Want — Here’s How!

The unexpected arrival of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has you questioning whether it’s the right moment to polish up your stealthy instincts from a past gaming life, don’t you think?

Perhaps you’re curious if Bethesda (or modders) have at last bestowed upon us a system that no longer penalizes creativity. Excitingly, they have! The Oblivion Remastered offers a long-awaited revamp to the leveling system, discarding the previous spreadsheet simulator for something more engaging instead.

Let’s break down Oblivion Remastered’s new leveling system.

Oblivion’s new leveling system, demystified

Disregard any previous knowledge you have about “streamlined leveling.” Here’s a new perspective on how Oblivion Remastered changes the game:

Instead of a traditional, straightforward leveling system, Oblivion Remastered introduces a more complex approach to character progression. This change in the script is designed to offer a fresh and engaging experience for players.

  • Specialization and setup: You choose one Specialization (Combat, Magic, Stealth), two favorite attributes, and seven Major Skills. Everything else becomes Minor.
  • Skill points: Major Skills start +20 higher and level faster, but all skills contribute XP. No wasted effort.
  • Leveling up: You earn XP from all skills. Once the XP bar fills, sleep in a bed to level up (yes, even just for an hour).
  • Attribute points: You now get 12 virtual points per level-up, and you can spend them on up to 3 attributes with  max 5 points per attribute per level-up but Luck costs 4 points for just one level, and you can only upgrade it once per level-up.
  • Retroactive Stats: Health from Endurance is retroactive – no more rushing to max it early.

Instead of Oblivion with training wheels, imagine a new experience where the constraints have been lifted, giving you unrestricted creativity and autonomy. You’ll now have the liberty to construct as you please, progress through levels according to your own pace, and no longer worry about minor mishaps like that extra Acrobatics point at level 3.

That covers everything there is to know about our game’s leveling system. If you want suggestions on which races are most effective or need help remembering all the console commands, we have resources available for you.
