Warning: This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again.
In the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) finale of “Daredevil: Born Again”, a significant twist in Charlie Cox’s Man without Fear storyline from Marvel Television’s original series could potentially undo its impactful climax. Post the major creative revamp following the 2023 Hollywood strikes, “Daredevil: Born Again” has been tailored to directly carry forward the narrative from the original Netflix “Daredevil” series. Many actors returned to reprise their roles from the initial series, some plot threads were neatly tied up, and several long-standing enigmas were finally unveiled, one of which concerns Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin (Wilson Fisk).
Among the original “Daredevil” cast members, Vincent D’Onofrio is the only one who has reprised his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. Co-star Charlie Cox has been playing Matt Murdock’s Daredevil for a decade now, and it was exciting to see Deborah Ann Woll, Jon Bernthal, Ayelet Zurer, Wilson Bethel, Susan Varon, and even Elden Henson return as well. Unfortunately, one character who met a tragic end in season 3 of “Daredevil” did not make a comeback. However, his selfless sacrifice might have been compromised by a major revelation in “Daredevil: Born Again.
Born Again’s Finale Revealed Wilson Fisk Was Acquitted After Daredevil Season 3
Wilson Fisk’s Release From Prison After Daredevil Season 3 Has Finally Been Explained
At the close of Daredevil season 3, Wilson Fisk struck a deal with Matt Murdock, promising to return to prison in exchange for Murdock keeping details about Vanessa Fisk’s role in Fisk’s criminal activities under wraps. But, it was puzzling when Hawkeye observed Kingpin out of prison, leading to speculation over how he managed to get released despite his obvious criminal history. This confusion deepened during Fisk’s mayoral campaign, as it seemed implausible for a convicted felon to run for office and win, but the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again sheds light on the circumstances under which Fisk evaded prison and ultimately ascended to the position of Mayor of New York City.
In the closing moments of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, I found myself transported back to a pivotal conversation between Vanessa Fisk and Benjamin Poindexter, just before the commencement of the series. During this heartfelt chat, Vanessa disclosed a shocking revelation – that her husband, Wilson Fisk, had been acquitted of his extensive charges due to corruption within the FBI and FBI Agent Ray Nadeem’s actions.
This bombshell explanation finally shed light on a long-standing enigma that had lingered for four years since ‘Hawkeye’, but it left Ray Nadeem’s selfless sacrifice in ‘Daredevil’ season 3 feeling hollow, as he gave his life to see the Kingpin brought to justice for his crimes.
Agent Ray Nadeem’s Daredevil Season 3 Sacrifice Is Meaningless Now
Jay Ali Played FBI Agent Ray Nadeem In Daredevil Season 3
In the third season of Daredevil, Special Agent Rahul “Ray” Nadeem played a significant role, serving as Wilson Fisk’s intermediary when Fisk orchestrated his prison escape and manipulated the FBI. However, after recognizing Fisk’s true nature and the peril he posed, Nadeem collaborated with Daredevil to probe Benjamin Poindexter. Eventually, Nadeem teamed up with Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page to unmask Fisk. Unfortunately, when his testimony in court proved fruitless, Nadeem chose to record a final statement implicating Fisk before allowing Poindexter to take his life.
Ray Nadeem’s final statement led to Wilson Fisk’s incarceration, but it has been disclosed in Daredevil: Born Again that Nadeem’s selfless act was rendered futile. Instead, we now know that Nadeem’s flawed testimony and the FBI’s corruption, exposed by Wilson Fisk’s machinations, resulted in Kingpin’s charges being dismissed. Unfortunately, Nadeem’s significant contribution to unveiling the truth about Kingpin and toppling the oppressive supervillain was overshadowed in Daredevil: Born Again. However, this misfortune aligns perfectly with the series’ central themes.
Ray Nadeem’s Injustice Plays Into Daredevil: Born Again’s Themes Perfectly
Matt Murdock Becomes Daredevil Again Because Of People Like Ray Nadeem
Despite the disappointment that Ray Nadeem’s selfless act seemed to have no impact, and Wilson Fisk being released despite compelling evidence against him in the court, this plot development aligns well with the narrative of “Daredevil: Born Again.” Matt Murdock gave up his role as Daredevil following Foggy Nelson’s death at the start of the series, focusing instead on legal work. However, it was the persistent injustices of the world that eventually led Murdock to resume his role as Daredevil, and Ray Nadeem’s futile sacrifice may have played a part in reigniting this desire within him.

Matt Murdock was moved to resume his role as Daredevil due to several factors. These included the tragic deaths of Hector Ayala and Angela del Toro, Leroy Bradford’s unjust circumstances, Frank Castle’s persistent vigilantism in NYC, Muse’s murderous activities combined with his graffiti art, and the futile attempt by Ray Nadeem to bring down the Kingpin. The latter’s failure to make a difference underscored the pervasive injustice that Matt felt compelled to address once more. Although Nadeem wasn’t directly mentioned in “Daredevil: Born Again”, it’s evident that his demise left a significant impression on Matt Murdock, compelling him to return as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.
