On April 24th, Sony plans to roll out an updated system software for the PlayStation 5, reintroducing the user interface design of its home screen that takes inspiration from earlier Sony console models.
Back in December, I was thrilled to get my hands on UI themes modeled after iconic PlayStation consoles – PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. These themes were a fantastic way to honor the 30th anniversary of PlayStation. They received a warm welcome at their release, but unfortunately, they were only available for a limited period, vanishing by the end of January. When Sony took them down, it hinted that they would eventually reappear, and true to their word, the April 24 system update is bringing them back!
As per a recent update on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has renamed the previous feature known as ‘Themes’ to ‘Appearance’. A new ‘Appearance’ sub-menu will be incorporated into the PS5’s system settings. After updating your console, you can customize your system appearance by following these steps:
1. Navigate to the system settings menu.
2. Locate and enter the new ‘Appearance’ sub-menu.
3. Choose your preferred appearance from the options available.
- Navigate to and interact with the Settings Icon on the PS5’s Home Screen
- Pick the System settings menu
- Navigate down to the Appearance sub-menu
- Choose between the Default, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 Appearances.
As a devoted player, I’m thrilled about the upcoming addition in the April 24 system update – Audio Focus. This accessibility tool allows me to tailor the audio settings according to various preset modes, ensuring I catch every crucial detail in the game sounds more clearly. Unfortunately, at this point, it only supports headphones and doesn’t extend to TV, AV receivers, or soundbars.
In the Volume settings or PS5 Control center, players can select Audio Focus and choose from Boost Low Pitch, Boost Voices, Boost High Pitch, and Boost Quiet Sounds options. Each of these presets can be customized to weak, medium, and strong levels and applied to both left and right audio channels.
