Nintendo boss apologizes as Switch 2 demand is way too much for them to keep up with

Due to the high demand for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo’s President has expressed sincere regret that a substantial number of pre-orders won’t be able to be filled because they are unable to produce enough units to meet the demand at this time.

Starting from April 2, 2025, Nintendo Japan commenced taking applications for its raffle sale of the Switch 2 through their My Nintendo Store. Recently, President Shuntaro Furukawa declared that a substantial number of individuals who had entered the lottery to secure a pre-order opportunity for the new console will not be selected.

On April 23, Furukawa addressed the issue on X, stating:

“A staggering amount of applications, around 2.2 million within Japan itself, have poured in. This figure surpasses our initial predictions and outnumbers the quantity of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles available for delivery at the My Nintendo Store on June 5th.”

In simpler terms, the president of Nintendo expressed regret, saying that many customers might not be chosen as winners when the results are revealed on April 24th.

If you’re not chosen for the first raffle tomorrow, you’ll automatically be included in the second drawing. Nevertheless, it’s important to remember that even this doesn’t ensure that everyone can pre-order the console due to the massive interest in it.

Furakawa expressed his sincere regret for not meeting your expectations, even after proper preparation, and he added that in light of this feedback, they’re actively improving their production system to better meet demands.

Compared to the original Nintendo Switch, which sold approximately 13.12 million units globally within its first year, the current 2.2 million pre-orders from the Japanese My Nintendo Store represent only a portion of its sales. It remains to be seen if the upcoming Switch 2 can outperform its successful predecessor in terms of global sales.

After a pre-sale postponement in the U.S., pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will start on April 24, 2025. Take a look at all the announced Switch 2 games thus far, along with their pre-order prices and release dates.
