20 years after the original release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, we now have the opportunity to experience its Remastered version. Although Morrowind remains my favorite (fingers crossed for a new edition), Cyrodill’s adventures hold a special place in many people’s childhood memories. Replaying it brings back a sense of nostalgia, as if opening a time capsule. Sharing this unique feeling with others seems like a great idea, doesn’t it? Is it feasible? Can we play Oblivion Remastered cooperatively?
Multiplayer in Oblivion Remastered? Coop is not an option
To put it frankly, some recent re-releases of games might have been avoidable, but ones like Oblivion Remastered are definitely appreciated. It’s delightful to revisit the games we cherish in our minds rather than how they truly are. Just like returning to old favorite hangout spots with friends, doesn’t it seem enjoyable? So, working together on these games, cooperatively speaking, seems like a great concept, right?
Unfortunately, Multiplayer isn’t included in The Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Remastered. One possible reason is that implementing cooperative multiplayer effectively requires careful planning from the outset. Since the original Oblivion was developed with a single-player focus, transitioning to a multiplayer environment would likely involve significant work and potentially altering established mechanics.
An additional factor could be the insight gained by Bethesda following the launch of Fallout 76, which was met with a less than favorable response. Crafting an enjoyable multiplayer game is no simple feat; it required numerous updates and several years before players grew fond of it.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that there exists a multiplayer game within the realm of Elder Scrolls, titled The Elder Scrolls Online. Interestingly, this game is also quite accommodating for those who prefer solo play. If developers were to introduce cooperative play into Oblivion, they could inadvertently foster competition.
In essence, crafting a multiplayer mode involves many factors and isn’t necessarily worth the effort for everyone. If you’re seeking a cooperative experience, I’d recommend exploring other games. However, it’s important to note that the Elder Scrolls series is renowned for its extensive modding community. It’s possible that some fan-made creations may offer a multiplayer experience – something we’ve seen in gaming before.
