Damon Wayans expressed his appreciation following the cancellation of his show “Poppa’s House” by CBS, penning a heartfelt message on Instagram.
On Tuesday, CBS made the decision to end both “Poppa’s House” and “The Summit” after just one season. This sitcom, produced by Keenen Ivory Wayans and Kevin Hench, focused on the lives of a father-son pair, portrayed by Wayans and his actual son, Damon Wayans Jr.
CBS declared on Tuesday that they were no longer going to produce “Poppa’s House” and “The Summit”, as both shows had only lasted for one season. The sitcom depicted the lives of a father-son pair, with Keenen Ivory Wayans and Kevin Hench serving as creators, and Damon Wayans Jr. and his real father, Keenen Ivory Wayans, playing the roles of the duo.
In his Instagram post, Wayans said creating “Poppa’s House” was “such a beautiful journey.”
With a heart overflowing, I express my gratitude to each person who turned ‘Poppa’s House’ into an unforgettable journey,” he penned. “To the exceptional actors, you infused every scene with emotion, spirit, and laughter. It was truly a privilege to act alongside you and collaborate on something extraordinary. To the writers, producers, directors, and the entire team, you were the lifeblood of this production. Thank you for your devotion, enthusiasm, and for consistently showing up with passion and dedication. You made the set feel like family.
Wayans expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Wayans Jr., stating that “working alongside you has been one of the most joyful experiences of my life.” He further mentioned: “And to my extraordinary family, siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who contributed as writers, guest stars, and creative influences, you made this journey even more significant. It’s truly a blessing to have so much love on set and the ability to create and laugh together with family and friends.
Wayans expressed: “Though Poppa’s House is ending, I depart with profound gratitude, enduring friendships, and indelible memories. This show has given me more than I ever dared hope for. To all who watched, encouraged, and trusted in us, thank you. Your affection means everything. Onward to the next chapter, with only love in my heart.

In her review, EbMaster critic Aramide Tinubu noted that while “Poppa’s House” garnered positive feedback for its debut season, it didn’t quite hit a grand slam. She further explained that the series takes multiple episodes to find its rhythm and some of the humor is repetitive, veering towards slapstick comedy which may cause some viewers to lose interest.
Instead of “Poppa’s House,” CBS decided to move forward with the production of two new projects: “DMV,” a single-camera comedy featuring Harriett Dyer, Tim Meadows, Molly Kearney, and Alex Tarrant; and “Einstein,” a drama starring Matthew Gray Gubler and Rosa Salazar.
