After a long hiatus, Andor returns to our screens, initially offering viewers an exciting trilogy that kicks off the second and final season of this series. The creators aim to portray four years from Cassian’s life preceding the events of Rogue One, setting up its narrative conclusion. We have recently witnessed the first year unfold, or perhaps a glimpse into it, which sheds light on our protagonist’s life and his companions after their escape from Ferrix. Furthermore, we catch glimpses of Mon Mothma’s struggles with the Rebellion and the Empire’s strategies during this period.
Let’s zero in on the Empire’s concerning plans now. We’ve discovered that the Empire has set its sights on Ghorman, a planet renowned for its exceptional textiles. However, it’s not the luxury goods that have grabbed the Emperor’s attention. Instead, there seems to be something else hidden beneath Ghorman’s surface – valuable resources that make this seemingly ordinary planet significant.
In the realm of Andor, there’s a mention of a valuable ore called Kalkite, found on Ghorman. Krennic disclosed that the Empire is eager about this mineral due to its energy potential, making them energy self-sufficient without resorting to synthetic substitutes. Instead, they plan to extract the genuine Kalkite from Ghorman at any cost, a cost that might be catastrophic. The extraction of Kalkite could potentially devastate the planet, as the excessive mining might cause instability within its core, leading to severe geological stress.
Kalkite serves as a valuable mineral due to its potential energy applications, including possible use in the ongoing construction of the Death Star, a project of significant importance to the Empire, given its role as their ultimate weapon.
