‘Golden Bachelor’ Renewed for Season 2 With Mel Owens Set to Star

The popular series ‘The Golden Bachelor‘ is returning for another round on both ABC and Hulu! The lead role of the titular Golden Bachelor will be played by Mel Owens, a 66-year-old man with an impressive background as a former NFL player turned lawyer.

Gerry Turner previously held the title of the Golden Bachelor, but now that role has been passed to Owens. Turner was the one who kickstarted the series during its premiere year, which aired in 2023. According to ABC, the debut season attracted an average of 10.4 million viewers when viewership from Live+35 multi-platform watching is taken into account.

From 1977 to 1980, Owens played college football at the University of Michigan. In 1981, he was drafted ninth overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL Draft. For nine seasons with the Rams, he made 26.5 sacks and intercepted the ball four times. After retiring from football, Owens became a financial adviser at Merrill Lynch, holding a Series 7 license. Later, he obtained his law degree from UC-San Francisco and now focuses on workers’ compensation, sports law, sports injuries, and disability benefits.

Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, along with Warner Horizon, is the production team behind the show titled ‘The Golden Bachelor.’ The release date for this exciting new series will be shared at a future time.

In the end, Turner chose Theresa Nist as the victor during the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor.” They tied the knot in a TV special on ABC in January 2024. However, they revealed their separation just three months afterwards.

In the year 2024, “The Golden Bachelor” was succeeded by “The Golden Bachelorette.” Joan Vassos made history as the first-ever “Golden Bachelorette,” having been compelled to withdraw from “The Golden Bachelor” competition after just three weeks because of a family crisis.
