Starting from April 23rd, Bungie’s latest creation, Marathon, will commence its alpha testing phase. Yet, certain individuals have already had a sneak peek at the game, even live-streaming their gameplay for public viewing. However, Bungie swiftly recognized this and halted the early access.
Cozmo, our community manager, shared on social platforms that certain players received an early look or preview, but unfortunately, the studio didn’t allow continuous play for everyone. Cozmo expressed his pleasure in seeing people enjoy their initial experiences.
The Marathon Alpha commences at 10 AM Pacific Time, or 1 PM Eastern Time, on April 23rd. Please note that this is a closed alpha test, which means participants must have received an invitation to participate.

Initially, Bungie intended to restrict alpha testers from broadcasting their gameplay, but they eventually scrapped the confidentiality agreement. The primary objective of the alpha testing was to evaluate the technical performance of Marathon as well as its ongoing play mechanics.
“We plan to break stuff,” Bungie said.
Marathon Alpha offers a partial glimpse into the complete game. It lacks the final graphics, character movements, and animations, as well as all characters, locations, weapons, pick-ups, factions, and enhancements. Additionally, it doesn’t offer ranked play and its gameplay balance is not yet finalized, nor does it include certain progression systems.
If you haven’t received an invitation for the upcoming Marathon alpha, feel free to join the game’s Discord channel where you can register for future testing opportunities.
On September 23rd, Marathon will debut for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This game allows cross-play and cross-saves, and it is a premium title that’s priced at approximately $40. In our preview of TopMob’s Marathon, we mentioned that the gameplay might be enjoyable, but the overall experience could have room for improvement.
