In the 19th episode of Ghosts’ fourth season, the story primarily revolved around Trevor’s secret daughter. However, amidst this, the show managed to resurface and resolve an unanswered question from earlier. The spirits inhabiting the Woodstone Mansion ensure that life there is never boring, but their antics aren’t always beneficial. In the previous episode of Ghosts (season 4, episode 18), Flower’s subplot showcased her comedic prowess; however, throughout the season, she was often sidelined due to the sitcom’s limited screen time to bring her back prominently.

In the following episode, number 19 titled “Pinkus Returns,” neither Thor nor Flower made an appearance, as they had been heavily involved in the storyline recently. The climax of Thor’s story arc in Ghosts’ season 4 unfolded beautifully in the previous episode, “Smooching and Smushing,” where he rescued Sass from a ghost trap, marking the resolution of his quest for companionship. Coincidentally, when Thor and Flower were sidelined again in this episode, it presented an opportunity to rekindle a long-dormant subplot that hadn’t been touched since early in season 4, the “Pinkus Returns” plotline.

In the third season, it was discovered that Pete could venture beyond the Woodstone Mansion’s limits, and soon after, he started dating Donna. Donna, a spirit residing in the Caribbean, appeared to be an ideal match for the gentle, affable Pete. So captivated by her, Pete’s friend Isaac became so jealous that he abandoned his fiancé Nigel at the altar, hoping to experience the intense love Pete claimed to have with Donna. This unexpectedly turned the finale of season 4, episode 4, “The Work Retreat,” into a tragic affair.

In the show they were watching, ghosts discovered that Donna was suspected of killing her husband in “The Work Retreat”. Meanwhile, as Trevor connected with his daughter in “Pinkus Returns”, Pete confessed guiltily that he had distanced himself from Donna after hearing these accusations. Interestingly, for much of season 4, Donna’s presence was barely acknowledged, despite her connection to Pete being the reason Isaac chose to leave Nigel.

Despite always employing his abilities for good during season 4, Pete hadn’t managed to visit Donna and end their relationship yet. When he eventually did, she revealed that she had been falsely accused of her husband’s murder. Intrigued, Pete took on the role of detective to unravel the mystery. The truth about Donna’s innocence again underscored his supernatural abilities as he visited Richard, a former neighbor, at his home. Richard claimed to have witnessed Donna committing the crime. Pete’s investigation strengthened the bond between him and Jay from the series ‘Ghosts’, as it was Jay who inadvertently cracked the case open.

Through their mutual fondness for ’80s pop culture trivia, Pete and Jay figured out that Richard’s neighbor was not telling the truth about witnessing the murder. He had claimed to have seen it as a ghost, unable to stop it, but the album he was playing was released after Donna’s husband’s death. In the fourth season of ‘Ghosts’, Joan didn’t replace Nigel in the episode “Pinkus Returns,” however, the sitcom supported Isaac’s breakup by confirming that Donna was not guilty at all.

It appears that Donna and Pete may have reconciled romantically, as Pete enlisted Sam and Jay to reveal Richard’s wife Linda as the true culprit in the crime. Linda was apprehended during this debate between Pete and Sam about whether they should continue solving crimes, ultimately deciding that dealing with the ghosts was consuming too much of Sam’s time for them to pursue more detective work.

Can Donna Return In Ghosts Season 4?

Donna Is Unlikely To Come Back Before Ghosts Season 4’s Finale

It’s been hinted that Donna and Pete might still be together at the end of “Pinkus Returns,” but it’s unlikely we’ll see Donna again before the end of Ghosts season 4. While Sass’s love interest in Ghosts is likely to return, as their storyline remains open-ended, there seems to be no compelling reason for Donna to make an appearance before the current season concludes. Her Caribbean home and cleared name provide her with a strong incentive to stay put.

Beyond what’s been discussed earlier, the sitcom seems to be short on screen time left to bring back all its side characters for a cameo before the final episode. Characters like Joan are crucial for Sass’s storyline, Bela for the restaurant subplot, and Trevor’s daughter for more resolution following her recent discoveries, need to make reappearances. However, as Ghosts season 4, episode 19 has already resolved Pete and Donna’s case, there’s no immediate need to bring Donna back again.
