A fresh interpretation of the “Avengers: Doomsday” plot suggests that the character called The Leader could reappear following “Captain America: Brave New World,” potentially setting up his role in “Avengers: Secret Wars.” In the year 2008, which marked the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), while “Iron Man” often steals the spotlight, it’s worth noting that “The Incredible Hulk” was also released that year. The most recent Captain America film opened up opportunities for various characters from the movie to influence the franchise more significantly. Although I wished for more of him, Marvel effectively utilized Tim Blake Nelson’s character, Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader, in the 2025 MCU production.
One of Marvel’s smartest villains, this character, orchestrated worldwide conflicts and exposed Thunderbolt Ross’ hidden truths. I was surprised when the post-credits scene in “Captain America: Brave New World” connected The Leader to future Avengers movies in the MCU. It turns out that The Leader is aware of the impending danger to the multiverse and Earth-616, and given his role in the franchise and the revelation from that post-credits scene, I think it’s possible that The Leader could assume the part of a Marvel Comics character during the Secret Wars in the MCU.
Who Is The Maker & His Role In Secret Wars Explained
Marvel Comics Has An Evil Version Of Reed Richards
In the Marvel Comics universe, Earth-616 serves as the base for the primary versions of both heroes and villains. Meanwhile, there was another Earth, Earth-1610, which housed the initial Ultimate Marvel Universe. This universe introduced a series of comics featuring fresh takes on many of Marvel’s classic characters. The Ultimate Universe had a particularly grim fate in store for its Fantastic Four.
Following Franklin Storm’s demise, Reed Richards, feeling disillusioned and bitter, ultimately transforms into the Maker after he cold-bloodedly murders his family and orchestrates assaults against superheroes, once he learns that his world was destined to perish – a fact revealed by Kang.
In a twist of fate, the genius Reed Richards, known as the Maker within the grand cosmos of Marvel Comics, transforms from a creator to one of its most chilling adversaries. As one of the select few entities privy to the impending incursions and the inevitable demise of the multiverse, the Maker is powerless to halt these cataclysmic events. However, evil doesn’t claim Reed Richards as its victim; instead, the Maker manages to flee along with the Cabal, using their stolen blueprints for a makeshift life raft. In the narrative of Secret Wars, it is the Maker who deceives Earth-616’s Reed Richards, ultimately meeting his doom at the hands of the Molecule Man, reduced to slices in the process.
Avengers: Doomsday Theory Explains How The Leader Could Take The Maker’s Place In The MCU
Marvel Has Little Time To Introduce A New Major Villain
In the 2015 Secret Wars comic event, the Creator played a significant part; yet, this doesn’t guarantee his involvement in the MCU version of it. Here’s why: The upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, has a lot on its plate as it aims to introduce Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and solidify him as a menace to the multiverse. Meanwhile, with Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards set to debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, there may not be enough time to introduce another villain, the Maker, before the Avengers movie.

The theory that has been shared on Reddit by user Signal_Expression730 about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday in the Marvel Cinematic Universe suggests that the character known as The Leader bears similarities with the Maker. Both characters are exceptionally intelligent and have knowledge of impending incursions and the potential collapse of the multiverse. Instead of establishing a base called “The City” like the Maker does in the comics, the Leader might break free from The Raft prison and seize control of it, employing technology to convert the facility into a version of the comics’ Life-Rafts. Instead of the Cabal, characters such as Zemo and Red Hulk could ally with the Leader.
How The MCU Could Still Use The Maker After The Avengers Movies
Marvel Can Postpone The Character’s Debut
If the Character assumed the Creator’s position in a significant part of the story of “Avengers: Doomsday”, it would open up an opportunity for the Hulk’s antagonist to step into his role in “Avengers: Secret Wars” on Battleworld. This scenario would allow the Character to collaborate with Reed Richards, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, but with a sinister twist – he aims to seize the powers of the character who will likely represent the MCU’s Molecule Man, which could be Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Once the Character has taken over the Creator’s role, this villain could potentially be utilized in future Marvel Cinematic Universe productions.
First Steps’ suggests that Reed Richards feels responsible for Galactus threatening Earth due to his manipulation of space. This could lead to Reed searching for his counterparts across different universes, potentially introducing the Council of Reeds in live-action for the first time. A villainous version like the Maker could then serve as an ideal antagonist following ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’.
