‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Trailer: Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. Return in Bloody Slasher Sequel

If you intend to conceal the truth, ensure it remains hidden. Sony has unveiled the initial teaser for “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” an eagerly anticipated sequel to the 1997 slasher film of the same title by Jim Gillespie. Key characters Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. will be reprising their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, respectively, from the first two movies in the series.

I Know What You Did Last Summer” (2021 version) is helmed by director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, with co-writing credits to Robinson and Sam Lansky. The screenplay underwent an initial draft by Robinson and Leah McKendrick, while the characters were developed by Lois Duncan. This film marks the fourth installment in the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series and is a direct follow-up to the 1998 original. In this continuation, a group of friends find themselves pursued by a hook-handed murderer, exactly one year after they were involved in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in a man’s death.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to be part of the audience who gets to witness Hewitt and Prinze Jr. sharing the screen with exciting newcomers like Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Billy Campbell, and Gabbriette in this upcoming franchise. Can’t wait to see the magic unfold!

As a movie enthusiast penning down my thoughts, I eagerly anticipate the upcoming sequel announced late in 2022 by McKendrick and Robinson. The renowned Neal H. Moritz is set to produce once more. However, much to our disappointment, Sarah Michelle Gellar has chosen not to reprise her role as Helen Shivers due to the perceived challenge of rewriting her character’s demise in a plausible manner.

As a passionate cinephile, I was eagerly anticipating Camila Mendes’ involvement in Amazon MGM’s “Masters of the Universe” film, but sadly, scheduling conflicts forced her to step away from the project. However, the good news is that principal photography for “I Know What You Did Last Summer” commenced in November 2024, with Elisha Christian at the helm as cinematographer.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer” hits theaters on July 18. Watch the full trailer below:
