Mike Flanagan’s ‘Life of Chuck’ to Close Screen Festival of Inaugural SXSW London (EXCLUSIVE)

The Sci-Fi Drama “The Life of Chuck,” which was awarded Toronto Film Festival’s prestigious audience prize last year by Mike Flanagan, will conclude the first SXSW London Screen Festival.

The movie, which is being locally distributed by Studiocanal, will make its U.K. debut as the closing night film for the event on June 7.

Based on a 2020 novella by Stephen King, titled “The Life of Chuck,” Tom Hiddleston stars alongside Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay. This heartwarming story revolves around an ordinary man named Charles Krantz. The movie is divided into three separate acts that unravel backwards in time, offering a stark contrast against a world that seems to be disintegrating gradually. Acquired by Neon for U.S. distribution following the Toronto Film Festival, it has been likened more to adaptations like “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Stand By Me,” rather than “It” or “Pet Sematary.

The inaugural SXSW London event is scheduled to take place from June 2nd to 7th in the creative district of Shoreditch, London. Among the speakers already announced are Idris Elba, Gillian Anderson, as well as the CEOs of Twitch, WPP, OnlyFans, and Google Deepmind.

In a conversation with EbMaster last year, Katy Arnander, the director of programming for SXSW London, expressed that their first event aimed to stand out from others by fostering creative collaboration.

She noted that while there are numerous events focusing on specific arts, creativity, or tech, the fusion of culture, creativity, and technology in one event is particularly distinctive to London. This, she believes, sets SXSW apart as a unique festival and gathering.

EbMaster parent company PMC owns the SXSW franchise.
