heads up: Grosse Pointe Garden Society episode 9 has plot twists if you haven’t watched it yet. This series premiered on February 23 on NBC and moved to a Friday 8 pm slot in early April. You can catch up on the latest episodes, which are released next day on Peacock. The show revolves around four members of a suburban gardening club whose lives become entangled by scandals, mischief, and a hidden truth – a murder nobody is willing to discuss openly. As hidden facts emerge, they strive to maintain the facade of perfection while their garden blooms with secrets.
Hailing from the minds of Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, the television series titled Grosse Pointe Garden Society boasts a star-studded cast including Aja Naomi King, Melissa Fumero, Ben Rappaport, and AnnaSophia Robb. Joining this ensemble is Jennifer Irwin, recognized for her roles in The Goldbergs and Superstore, who breathes life into Marilyn, the meticulously groomed head of the club. In season 1, episode 9, “The Cup,” we delve deeper into Irwin’s character as she grapples with the pressures of being the wife of the mayor.
In an exclusive conversation, Jennifer Irwin discusses Marilyn’s union with the mayor and proposes a fusion of storylines from ‘St. Denis Medical’ and ‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’.
Irwin Hopes Marilyn Doesn’t Find Out About The Garden Society’s Decision
“We see these long-time rivals have this moment of understanding with each other.”
ScreenRant: I love Marilyn as a character. I feel like she gets results.
Jennifer Irwin: You’re the first one to express admiration for her, and I feel the same way. She’s an accomplished woman who delivers results, and having individuals like her around is beneficial. She’s less concerned with others’ opinions and has a clear mission. She’s dedicated to achieving her goals, and she will make sure they get done – she’s not there to socialize or win friends.
Will she ever find out that the club wanted to impeach her?
Jennifer Irwin: I find it endearing to imagine that she doesn’t need to fire her, as the scene later reveals a tender moment where their longstanding rivalry softens and they show compassion for each other, given Catherine’s discovery of her colleague’s struggling home life. This act of kindness is quite touching, which is why I admire this particular scene. However, it’s important to remember that she has made mistakes in the past.
Marilyn introduces some big sculptures but faces charges of cultural appropriation, leading to her eventual defeat in the competition. This is when she’s found in the kitchen grappling with her sorrow over this loss. It’s then that Catherine approaches, offering a gesture of reconciliation that Marilyn isn’t aware of, saying, “I understand your situation, and we really need you.
She ultimately assists them in their victory, serving as the one who identifies issues within the office.
Jennifer Irwin: She won’t shy away from any tactic, including uncovering information about others if needed. She’ll go to great lengths. Her determination is unwavering – she doesn’t want Bloomfield Hills and Teddy to win the cup again. In short, she’s fully committed.
Marilyn has said that being the mayor’s wife is a full-time job, but is it one that she wants?
Jennifer Irwin hints that she suspects the woman secretly aspires to become the mayor, and if she does decide to run, Jennifer would support her vote. This episode suggests that their marriage isn’t content, and it seems the woman might harbor some feelings about being the mayor’s wife.
It seems to me that she regards this matter with great importance, maintaining a public image not only to satisfy her spouse but also to hold onto her position as mayor and potentially become president. She’s the type of person who has a single-minded determination and is willing to go to any lengths to reach her goal.
Irwin Explains How Marilyn Could End Up At St. Denis Medical
“Someone hit her over the head with one of those garden hoes.”
In a possible turn of events, it seems that your previous co-star, Wendi McLendon-Covey, is featured in St. Denis Medical, while you are part of Grosse Pointe Garden Society. Both shows air on NBC… Is there a chance we could witness an NBC reunion between the two of you?
Jennifer Irwin: A surprising turn of events! Marilyn encountered trouble when someone struck her on the head with a garden hoe. Consequently, she was left with a wound on the side of her head, causing her to lose a considerable amount of blood. As a result, she was taken to the clinic for treatment.
It would be wonderful if that scenario unfolds! By any chance, are there any actors from past series whom you’d want to feature in the new season of Grosse Pointe?
Jennifer Irwin expresses her eagerness to delve deeper into understanding the characters in the series, as there are many of them and she currently finds herself intrigued by their personalities.
Is it common for Marilyn to join the main circle, or will she continue to observe from the sidelines?
It seems Jennifer Irwin believes she might secretly enjoy joining that particular group. She appears to have a limited social circle, perhaps due to her tendency to isolate herself and unintentionally push others away throughout her life. Her social skills could be perceived as less refined. However, when necessary, she can manage to present herself appropriately, but in genuine interpersonal situations, Jennifer might find it challenging.
