It’s been confirmed that a fresh, enigmatic “Star Wars” series is currently being worked on by Carlton Cuse, who previously collaborated on “Lost”, along with his son, Nick Cuse.
The specifics regarding the show, like which characters it features, its timeframe within the “Star Wars” chronology, and who will portray the roles, remain scarce at this point.
Previously, a cast member from “Lost” hasn’t been the first to venture into a distant galaxy. J.J. Abrams, one of the creators of the iconic sci-fi series, directed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in 2015 and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019.
Or, more informally:
A “Lost” actor wasn’t the first to jet off to a galaxy far away. J.J. Abrams, co-creator of that sci-fi show we all love, directed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Initially, Damon Lindelof, who worked alongside Cuse as co-showrunner on “Lost”, was teamed up with Justin Britt-Gibson to write a movie focusing on Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey, in the Star Wars universe. However, Lindelof announced in 2023 that he had been asked to step away from the Star Wars galaxy, and both him and Britt-Gibson were replaced as writers by Steven Knight, the creator of “Peaky Blinders”. Later on, Knight himself parted ways with the project. Currently, the project is still in development under writer George Nolfi and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Additionally, a fresh “Star Wars” trilogy is being created by writer Simon Kinberg, while Taika Waititi has been linked to direct another film. At the recent “Star Wars” event in Tokyo, Lucasfilm officially announced the upcoming movie titled “Star Wars: Starfighter,” which will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for directing “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and stars Ryan Gosling.
Following the conclusion of “Lost,” I, as a fan, found myself immersed in the captivating world of Carlton Cuse. He delved into developing “Bates Motel” while concurrently overseeing the FX drama “The Strain.” More recently, he’s been involved with “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “Locke & Key,” and “Pulse,” Netflix’s inaugural medical procedural drama series. It’s intriguing to note that this is the first project we, father and son, have embarked on together. The younger Cuse, also a writer and producer, has an impressive resume that includes “The Leftovers,” “Watchmen,” and “Station Eleven.
