Nicholas Hoult And Rachel Brosnahan Were Mesmerized The First Time They Saw David Corenswet As Superman, But They Forgot One Obvious Truth

There’s been plenty of buzz surrounding James Gunn’s forthcoming Superman movie, and as we get closer to its theater release later this year, there’s still much to learn. The 2025 film has generated excitement due to its promise of launching a fresh chapter in DC cinema on the big screen, introducing a completely new Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor. Even the actors seem captivated by the sight of the main character, David Corenswet, donning the suit for the first time (though his reaction was somewhat unique).

At our Warner Bros. CinemaCon 2025 event, we discussed Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, and Rachel Brosnahan joining the stage, but the most captivating moment came when the actress portraying Lois Lane and the actor playing Lex Luthor shared their reactions to seeing Corenswet in the costume for the first time.

I distinctly recall that incident. I found myself on a movie set, with David in costume as Superman, who seemed to be bathed in light from behind. That moment, filled with cinematic enchantment, felt like my initial brush with the magical world of movies.

Indeed, it’s important to mention that Houlty played the antagonist in the film, but during the crucial nighttime scene, he expressed feeling like a child in a candy store. It seems this response was common among those working with Superman, as Houlty jokingly recalled everyone seeming moved by their experiences, only to turn around and find others similarly affected…

I felt a sense of warmth in my stomach, sporting a goofy smile on my face… As I turned to look, I discovered that I was not alone; about fifty others in the room shared the same expression.

During an interview promoting their upcoming DC film, Brosnahan mentioned that she vividly remembers her co-star’s cape fluttering far off as they filmed a scene under moonlight. This moment was particularly awe-inspiring for the novice actress on set, who had once expressed her amazement with a simple five-word reaction to her first encounter with Superman’s appearance. However, for Corenswet, it was simply another ordinary day in costume.

I faced him and said, ‘Hey, it seems you’re just like Superman.’ He replied, ‘Indeed, I’ve stayed here for quite a while now.’ [Smiled]

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but remind folks of one undeniable fact: When you’re the one donning the Superman suit, sporting the cape and tights for months on end, standing under moonlight doesn’t quite have that magical allure anymore. You see, there’s been plenty whispered about the gritty reality behind filming superhero movies. There are green screens, harness work, perspiration-drenched costumes, and the everyday drudgery that is simply the nitty-gritty of movie making. It can take endless hours to get things just right.

While fans find Superman’s air kiss in the trailer charming, Corenswet clarified that it wasn’t as romantic for him. He mentioned that it was less enchanting when one is lifted by their underwear. I agree with his perspective on the Lois Lane kissing scene. However, for those uninvolved in the debate about trunks or no trunks, and not present during the entire process of putting on the superhero suit like Corenswet was, being on set still felt a bit more magnificent.

Now let’s just hope that majesty plays out on the big screen.
