Switch 2 Ad Brings Back Paul Rudd Decades After His SNES Commercial

Occasionally, moving backward can help you advance better. Seemingly, Nintendo embraced this concept when marketing the upcoming Switch 2, as they rehired Ant-Man star Paul Rudd for a new advertisement on their hybrid system. Rudd first appeared in a TV commercial for SNES in 1991 before he became a well-known figure and superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Nintendo recently posted the trailer for the launch of Switch 2 on YouTube, titled “Now You’re Playing Together.” This new commercial is a modern take on the iconic 1991 SNES advertisement featuring Rudd, which concluded with the phrase “Now you’re playing with power. Super Power.” Notably, some have observed that Nintendo has essentially updated the original SNES ad for Switch 2, as evidenced by the video shared on Instagram.

In the latest Switch 2 advertisement, Rudd is seen wearing the same attire, prompting actor Joe Lo Truglio (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Wet Hot American Summer) to query, “Why do you look like you’re in a boy band?” The commercial primarily highlights GameChat, the platform’s social center where users can engage in voice and video conversations.

The team is currently enjoying a game of Mario Kart World, using GameChat. The upcoming Switch 2 launch title has sparked much excitement, but there’s been quite a heated discussion about whether the $80 price tag is warranted. Last week, Mario Kart World even had its own Nintendo Direct, revealing that eating meals can unlock costumes within the game.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement! Finally, this week on April 24, pre-orders for the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 will commence in the United States. The delay seemed to be due to the Trump administration’s recent announcement of new tariffs affecting countries like Vietnam and China, where Nintendo primarily manufactures its systems and accessories. Mark your calendars for June 5, as this sleek gaming device will retail at $450 upon release. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
