A Minecraft Movie Surges Past $700 Million Worldwide

The global earnings of the Minecraft movie have surpassed $700 million, with an impressive domestic intake of approximately $345 million, while foreign box office sales account for around $376 million. To date, the worldwide gross revenue stands at roughly $721 million.

Over the weekend in the U.S., the Minecraft film grossed approximately $41.1 million, with about $9.5 million earned on Sunday alone – a 38% decrease from Saturday’s earnings of $15.8 million, and also down from Friday’s $16 million. The drop in revenue can be partly attributed to the fact that this past Sunday was Easter holiday.

Regardless of this significant achievement, the Minecraft Movie remains second in terms of box office earnings, trailing The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which raked in over $1.3 billion. To surpass this record, the Minecraft Movie needs to sell more tickets equivalent to about half of its current earnings.

Warner Bros. is about to finalize a deal for a Minecraft Movie sequel soon, although no formal agreement has been reached yet. The movie has recently added a warning asking viewers not to throw popcorn in theaters, and Jack Black reinforced this message by appearing at some screenings. Meanwhile, the film surpassed the opening weekend earnings of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

In our review of TopMob’s A Minecraft Movie, we stated that if the idea of Jack Black exploring the Overworld appeals to you, then you’ll find this film enjoyable.
