As a die-hard PC gamer, I’ve always held a special place in my heart for the legendary game, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It’s not only a cult classic that’s shaped modern first-person shooters but also a significant stone laid in the foundation of this franchise. However, it wasn’t the first chapter; two earlier installments were out before it, exclusively on the original PlayStation.
Luckily for us, a dedicated modder named TheMrBenpulido took it upon himself to change that. For several years now, he’s been tirelessly working on the Medal of Honor Reborn project, which breathes new life into the campaign from Medal of Honor: Underground within the realm of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. With a fresh update just released, we thought it was worth mentioning.
The latest update incorporates all three maps from Wewelsburg, including Dark Camelot, which is the fourth installment of the initial storyline. Consequently, the updated version of Medal of Honor Reborn now boasts a total of fourteen playable maps. This indicates that the mod is nearly three-quarters done, as the original campaign in MOH: Underground encompassed seven episodes and an extra one with bonus levels.
As a gamer, diving into the revamped version of Medal of Honor Reborn feels like stepping into a whole new battleground. The developers have leveled up the enemy AI, making them more cunning and unpredictable opponents. Moreover, I’m thrilled to find that each map now comes with a clear objective list. For now, a simple press of TAB reveals the objectives in text format. I can’t wait to see how they refine this feature in the future, adding depth and strategy to my gaming experience.
The remake titled Medal of Honor Reborn stays remarkably true to its original PlayStation version. The creator has chosen not to modify the map layout, which may appear quite basic compared to modern standards. For example, since the PSOne couldn’t create standalone tree models, forests were depicted as textured walls. Nonetheless, the gameplay has been enhanced due to the use of the RCTW engine. In essence, it’s an engaging project that offers PC gamers a taste of a series installment that never officially graced their platform.
The game titled “Medal of Honor: Underground” initially came out in the year 2000. This action is set amidst World War II, where players step into the shoes of a female character, Manon Batiste, who serves as a covert agent for the French Resistance.
