Disney’s Snow White Struggles: Remake Fails to Hit $100M at Box Office

Disney’s live-action reboot, titled “ “, featuring Rachel Zegler as Snow and Gal Gadot as the Wicked Queen, has faced its fair share of challenges since it hit theaters on March 21. Despite having a substantial budget of approximately $270 million, the movie has not managed to recoup even half of that domestically so far, according to reports.

So far, the movie “Snow White,” directed by Marc Webb, has made approximately $84.5 million in the U.S. and slightly more, about $100.3 million, overseas. However, with total global earnings under $185 million, it appears that the film may struggle to make a profit.

The movie titled “Snow White” has received harsh criticism from critics, with its Rotten Tomatoes score currently standing at 39%. Critics on review aggregator sites have labeled it as “misguided” and “miscalculated”. They also believe that Gal Gadot’s performance is the main flaw of the movie.

Soon after “Snow White” was released, a large number of negative reviews from IMDb users caused the website to suspect irregular voting patterns on the movie’s page. Currently, IMDb users have given “Snow White” a low rating of 1.6 out of 10.

The Film is Banned in Lebanon

Snow White has had a challenging journey right from the start, and the actress playing her hasn’t found it easy either. In the middle of April, the contentious movie faced opposition, with Lebanon’s Interior Minister, Ahmad Hajjar, suggesting it should be prohibited in cinemas there.

Since the conflict began in October 2023, Gadot has been vocal about her public support for Israel. In 2024, at the Anti-Defamation League’s summit, she expressed her thoughts saying, “I never thought I would witness people not criticizing Hamas, but rather celebrating, justifying, and encouraging a brutal attack on Jewish communities in cities across the United States and around the world.

As a passionate film critic, I find myself compelled to share an interesting development regarding the upcoming release of “Snow White.” Notably, this cinematic production has faced a unique challenge: it has been boycotted by both the non-violent Palestinian-led movement, BDS, and the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), since its teaser trailer was first unveiled in 2024. This decision stems from political and cultural sensitivities that have become intertwined with the world of entertainment.

A Minecraft Movie is Dominating 2025’s Box Office

Compared to its release on April 4, Warner Bros.’ movie starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa has amassed over $344 million in the U.S. and a total of approximately $720 million globally since its premiere.

Despite the ongoing debate about the movie “Snow White,” it currently ranks as the fifth highest-earning film of 2025. However, since we’re still in the early stages of the year, this position is likely to shift rapidly. Notably, its Rotten Tomatoes rating of 47% isn’t significantly higher than “Snow White”‘s.

Snow White and A Minecraft Movie are in theaters currently.
