Cynthia Erivo’s Bald Truth About ‘Wicked’ Will Shock You!

The hit musical from last year, “ “, grossed over $750 million globally and skyrocketed Cynthia Erivo to stardom. Known for her three Oscar nominations, Erivo portrayed Elphaba, a young woman ostracized due to her green skin. To prepare for Elphaba’s wigs, Erivo shaved her head before the filming commenced.

At the Canva Create event held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Erivo discussed her hair loss, particularly when she was without the green Elphaba makeup.

I recall a sense of raw exposure and vulnerability when I found myself without my costume and makeup,” I admitted, reflecting on the moment I gazed at my bald reflection in the mirror. “Seeing my bare scalp was surprisingly liberating for me. It resonated with an openness I appreciate, a blank canvas devoid of anything but my eyes.” Since letting go of my hair, I’ve felt more connected to my body and my self.

Erivo Has Had Many Styles Throughout the Years

Prior to adopting the hairstyle for her role, Ervio mentioned that she had numerous hair styles in the past. She often had her hair braided in various colors and considered one particular style as her favorite. “Even now,” she added, “I’m planning to have white and red braids. I was adamant about it being the best hairstyle I ever did – no one could convince me otherwise.

She went on to say, “When I was younger, I had an abundance of hair. During my time at drama school, something significant transpired…at our graduation ceremony. As I stood there, I reflected, ‘Ah, I want people to focus on my face.’ At that moment, I had a full head of thick and long locks, and I decided, ‘I’m curious about what it would be like to have short hair.’

Erivo expressed that she enjoyed being recognized as herself when entering a room. “I knew I was heading to auditions and walking into these spaces, and I simply wanted to show up as me,” she explained. “So I got my hair cut short, and I recall going to the hairdresser initially, but she refused to cut it because she feared I might miss the length of my previous hair…and then I returned two days later and had it all chopped off.
