In Hollywood, t Born Again, which significantly improved its narrative when it was decided to align the new show with the old Netflix series. As for the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm takes a unique approach to rewrites, regarding them as opportunities for growth and enhancement rather than signs of trouble.
At Star Wars Celebration, Favreau revealed a wealth of information about the upcoming film, focusing on the further escapades of Din Djarin and his tiny green sidekick. One aspect Favreau discussed was how he tailored his script-writing approach – and crucially, reworking scripts – for the development of the movie. In the process of making the film, Favreau carried out numerous revisions as the project unfolded. In an interview with Collider, Favreau elaborated on how the series undergoes changes due to the unique directors or writers associated with individual episodes. Specifically, Favreau highlighted how Robert Rodriguez’s participation in The Mandalorian influenced his episode of the series.
He delved deeply into the action, making it more elaborate. The action could be considered sparsely detailed. This allowed ample space for directors to infuse their unique visions, often leading to revisions based on their intuition. I prefer each episode to showcase distinct characters and embody the director’s style.
Favreau went on to explain that the method he employed for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” was quite comparable, and although he was the director, there were additional perspectives needed to shape the film’s narrative.
When it comes to scripting, we follow a familiar approach. As the story unfolds, I prefer to pen down the narrative of the action itself, rather than detailing each shot. That’s because our talented team of storyboard artists and pre-visualization experts handle that part, along with animatics. Then, I team up with exceptional animators like Hal Hickel and the crew, as well as John Nolan and everyone at ILM. Having worked together on various television seasons, we have a strong understanding of each other’s creative styles. So, I aim to allow ample space for everyone to contribute their unique ideas.
‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Ushers in a New Era of Theatrical ‘Star Wars’ Releases
The Star Wars series has been missing from the big screen since 2019’s release of “The Rise of Skywalker”. However, for the past couple of years, Lucasfilm has primarily been working on Disney+ shows and animated productions. But that’s about to change significantly! First up is “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, followed by several other big-screen movies scheduled for release over the coming years.
Jon Favreau‘s movie is set to premiere in cinemas on May 22, 2026, sharing the spotlight with other anticipated releases like Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, and Spider-Man gracing our screens again. In the following year, Shawn Levy will present Star Wars: Starfighter to audiences with Ryan Gosling leading a fresh Star Wars narrative. Furthermore, the franchise will continue growing with new films from James Mangold, Taika Waititi, and additional stories from the Mandalorian Era by Dave Filoni.
