The Halo video game series has achieved tremendous success for numerous reasons, not just its innovative gameplay. Since the debut of Halo: Combat Evolved on the original Xbox, it has consistently captivated players with well-crafted narratives featuring memorable characters that fans have come to love and support. This narrative quality was also evident in the Paramount+ series adaptation, which spanned two seasons before its recent cancellation.
Fans of the gaming franchise had various opinions about how the game’s narrative was translated to television, but one character who captivated viewers universally was Soren-066, portrayed masterfully by Bokeem Woodbine (known for his roles in Ripley and Fargo). MovieWeb recently interviewed Woodbine during his promotional rounds for his new series Government Cheese, which is now streaming on Apple TV+. Additionally, Woodbine shared his thoughts on the recent termination of Halo and the possibility of Soren’s return to television in the future.
Woodbine expressed disappointment when the show got canceled as he felt there were more stories to be told. He cherished working with everyone in the cast, who he considered not only talented but also wonderful individuals. To put it simply, he hated seeing his character Soren depart, and if given a choice, he would have kept the series going somehow. Overall, it was an exceptional experience for him.
Woodbine’s “Camaraderie” with David Oyelowo
Currently, admirers of Woodbine’s work can catch him in the limelight within “Government Cheese”, a production by Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr. In this piece, he plays Bootsy, a humorous character who provides support to the main character, Hampton (David Oyelowo), an ex-convict. Set in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley during 1969, they both strive to make ends meet, and Woodbine has shared insights about his memorable role’s origins with us.
Paul provided a wealth of knowledge since Bootsy, a real-life cat, played a significant role in his life. He meticulously detailed the characteristics and influence of this feline friend on him during his younger years. The primary resource for the information was Paul himself. However, beyond referencing Paul’s insights, I found myself particularly drawn to the idea that Bootsy was exceptionally confident and content in his own skin.
Woodbine shared insights on his genuine camaraderie with fellow performer Oyelowo, consistently delivering powerful performances, as evidenced by their numerous humorous moments in the film “Government Cheese“.
Our connection felt effortless and authentic, almost as if we were long-time friends rather than co-stars. We seemed to understand each other instinctively, and I believe we both have acquaintances who are similar to the characters we’re playing. There was little need for extra efforts beyond our individual preparations once we started filming. It all unfolded quite naturally, much like you’d expect from a genuine friendship. And let me tell you, David is an exceptional actor and a truly remarkable person. I consider myself fortunate to consider him my friend.
Embrace the warm, genuine fellowship it offers. The series Government Cheese is now available to stream on Apple TV+. You can view it via the link provided below:
