Doctor Who Season 15: Terrifying ‘The Well’ Trailer Reveals Horror, New Foe, and a Dark Shift!

In the third episode of season 15 for “Doctor Who,” titled “The Well,” the Fifteenth Doctor and his companion, Belinda Chandra (played by Varada Sethu), find themselves in a harrowing experience on an abandoned mining planet. This chilling encounter is hinted at in the first trailer. The second season of Ncuti Gatwa’s portrayal as the Time Lord sees him teaming up with Belinda, as an unexplained cosmic occurrence compels them to embark on a grand adventure to return to modern-day Earth. To make it back home, they must position a Vortex Indicator at key points in history to create a connection to 2025.

On their authorized YouTube platform, the “Doctor Who” team has posted a sneak peek titled “What’s Coming Next” for the third episode of season 15 named “The Well.

In the preview above, the Doctor and Belinda’s journey to program the Vortex Indicator leads them to join a fireteam sent to investigate a distant world. However, as the group comes across Aliss Fenly (Rose Ayling-Ellis), the sole survivor of a seemingly abandoned mining colony, they are also brought into contact with the most terrifying foe on their journey yet.

What “The Well” Could Mean For Doctor Who Season 15?

The Episode Is A Major Shift And Potentially A Major Gamble

Much like Gatwa’s Doctor Who debut season, season 15 kicked off with two lighthearted adventures to give audiences a chance to see the Doctor and Belinda’s bond develop. This also sets out the larger narrative of the season, before its third episode represents a major shift in tone. In season 14, this was seen through the Steven Moffat-penned “Boom,” a tense, character-focused tale that saw the Doctor trying to avoid falling victim to a landmine. However, season 15’s “The Well” tonal shift will instead throw the TARDIS into sheer terror.
Within various previews for season 15, “The Well” has been highlighted as one of the more horror-focused stories of the season, and its premise of an abandoned facility and the TARDIS team joining a large cast of potentially expendable soldiers does fit with familiar horror tropes. However, “The Well” may also be controversial, as it has been previously stated that the season will feature a sequel to an older story. With hints pointing to new episode being a sequel to season 4’s highly acclaimed “Midnight”, the story may prove to push the Doctor to their limits.
