Sinners Won’t Have a Sequel

Director Ryan Coogler discussed the prospect of creating a follow-up to his recently premiered time-set vampire film, starring Michael B. Jordan. Coogler and Jordan have been working together since their 2013 collaboration on the biographical drama Fruitvale Station, which marked Coogler’s debut as a feature filmmaker.

In a recent interview, when asked about the possibility of turning Sinners into a series, Coogler confessed that he had planned the movie as a standalone story with a clear conclusion. Having worked on franchises for quite some time, he expressed his desire to produce an innovative work that would provide audiences with a satisfying and complete experience. “I’ve been involved in making franchise films for a while now,” he stated, “so I was eager to move away from that.” He also shared his excitement about working on a film that felt fresh and personal to him and aimed to offer something original and distinct to the audience.

Coogler explained, “I aimed for the film to have a sense of completeness, like a well-rounded meal with appetizers, main courses, and desserts. I wanted it to be a whole and finished experience. That was how I described it whenever anyone asked. That was always my goal.” Since its release in theaters, the movie has received numerous positive reviews from both critics and viewers. At present, it boasts a Certified Fresh rating of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it Jordan and Coogler’s highest-rated collaboration, surpassing even films like Black Panther and Creed.

In the thrilling action-horror film titled “Sinners,” Jordan takes on the unique challenge of portraying twin brothers, Elijah and Elias Moore. Accompanying him are Hailee Steinfeld as Mary, Jack O’Connell as Remmick, Wunmi Mosaku as Annie, Jayme Lawson as Pearline, Omar Miller as Cornbread, Miles Caton as Sammie, Delroy Lindo as Delta Sim, Li Jun Li as Grace, and others. The talented team behind the scenes includes renowned composer Ludwig Göransson and costume designer Ruth E. Carter, who previously collaborated with Coogler and Jordan on the Black Panther films, earning her two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design. The movie’s synopsis goes: “Yearning to escape their past, the twin brothers return home to begin anew, only to find that a darker evil is ready to greet them.

What’s Next for Michael B. Jordan?

Following his role in “Sinners”, it’s anticipated that Jordan will take on another action-horror project – the long-awaited sequel to “I Am Legend”, with Will Smith reprising his role. In a prior interview, it was revealed that Jordan would play Will Smith’s son; however, recent updates suggest that Jordan will portray the leader of a new settlement in Connecticut instead. Moreover, Jordan is also working on the next chapter of the hit “Creed” franchise, where he will direct the sequel following the acclaim of “Creed III” in 2023, with Jordan returning as director for this upcoming installment.

Sinners is now playing in theaters worldwide.
