In approximately ten years since the original “The Accountant” hit the screens, we’re now expecting its sequel. Featuring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, and John Lithgow, the first installment was a box office success, with Affleck receiving critical acclaim for his portrayal. The story revolves around Christian Wolff, an autistic CPA proficient in martial arts, particularly pencak silat (an Indonesian martial art). He earns a living by tidying up the dishonest financial records of criminal and terrorist organizations worldwide that are plagued by internal theft.
In the end, a sequel has arrived, and it’s unique because the subsequent film outshines its predecessor. Unlike the first movie which had a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Accountant 2 boasts an impressive 85%. This is quite a leap, suggesting the possibility of a series. Moreover, Ben Affleck has hinted at creating a TV show that continues the story within the same universe.
If you’re a fan of “The Accountant,” here are some other films I’d recommend that blend action and finance. As a fellow enthusiast, I believe you might find them quite appealing too.

‘Midnight Run’ (1988)
In the movie “Midnight Run,” character Jack Walsh, portrayed by Robert De Niro, takes on a seemingly straightforward job as a bounty hunter. The task is to find a man named “The Duke” (Charles Grodin), who turns out to be a mob accountant accused of misappropriating funds. However, upon locating him, Walsh discovers that both the FBI and various gangsters are hot on his trail. Consequently, a nationwide pursuit unfolds in the film “Midnight Run.
An Acting Masterclass
This delightful movie centered around job completion struggles can be described as an enjoyable, suspenseful production skillfully directed by Martin Brest. De Niro and Grodin share a lively dynamic, Yaphet Kotto, famously known for his role as Bond villain Mr. Big, fits perfectly in the role of the special agent, and Joe Pantoliano, recognized from The Sopranos as Ralph, portrays Eddie Moscone with self-assurance and wide-eyed enthusiasm. You’ll find it hard to look away for even a second.

‘The International’ (2009)
In “The International,” Interpol agent Louis Salinger, portrayed by Clive Owen, is resolute in his quest to bring down bankers who are financing terrorism. He teams up with New York prosecutor Eleanor Whitman, played by Naomi Watts. However, as they delve deeper into the investigation, they find themselves increasingly under threat from shadowy figures. Can they successfully complete their mission?
An Unstoppable Clive Owen
This gripping, swift-moving action thriller offers a superb platform for two leading actors delivering exceptional performances. In the more flamboyant role, Owen’s character is as tightened as a taut bow, poised to break at any moment. Initially, Watts appears kind and unassuming, but as the story unfolds, we discern a chilling, ruthless streak within her. Drawing inspiration from the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) scandal of the 1980s, The International doesn’t shy away from probing the intricate connections between global politics.

‘Largo Winch’ (2008)
The story of Largo Winch begins with the murder occurring on a yacht, which happens to be the tycoon’s vessel. It later transpires that the deceased had an unknown son, who stands as the rightful heir to his business empire, known as the W-Group. Entering the scene is Largo Winch, who will soon encounter fierce resistance in his quest for his father’s wealth (portrayed by Tomer Sisley). However, Largo is no pushover.
Inheriting Problems
In a striking portrayal, corporate conflicts have seldom been depicted as unsettlingly as in Largo Winch, where anxiety and apprehension escalate subtly, almost unnoticeably over time. Even after many years since its debut, the movie continues to be a visually captivating experience, boasting breathtaking cityscapes and lush natural details. However, these stunning visuals never overshadow the talented cast. Tomer Sasha Dan gives an exceptional performance that could have propelled him to greater stardom in Hollywood.

‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ (2014)
The film Shadow Recruit, featuring the character Jack Ryan initially developed by author Tom Clancy, isn’t based on any specific novel. In this story, Chris Pine portrays Jack Ryan, who seems like an ordinary individual, but in reality, has been covertly working for the CIA for quite some time. The plot thickens as he stumbles upon a plot to intentionally collapse the U.S. economy, causing worldwide economic turmoil.
Far From the Books, but as Cool as Them
As a devoted cinephile, I must say that watching Tom Clancy’s Shadow Recruit, released not long after his passing, felt like a delightful nod from the author himself. The movie is brimming with elements that would have undoubtedly brought a smile to his face – thrilling chases, intense gunfights, and unexpected twists.
Chris Pine continues to astound me with his versatility as an actor, pulling off feats that seem almost unbelievable for the character he portrays. Moreover, the film’s visual set-pieces are nothing short of breathtaking, offering stark and striking imagery that leaves a lasting impression. Pine delivers yet another spirited performance in this action-packed drama.

‘Assault on Wall Street’ (2013)
In “Assault on Wall Street,” Dominic Purcell’s character, named Jim, experiences a breaking point. He is a former soldier who drives armored cars and is caring for his sick wife. The financial crisis of 2007–2008 causes him to lose his investments, which he feels has exacerbated his wife’s illness. Overwhelmed by guilt, his wife takes her own life. This tragedy pushes Jim into a state of anger, as he seeks out those he believes are responsible for the global economic turmoil.
A Rare Gem From Uwe Boll
In this movie, most exterior scenes were filmed on location within and around New York City, giving a strong sense of the bustling corporate environment. Despite his reputation for producing below-average films, Uwe Boll surpasses expectations here, drawing an impressive performance from Purcell (who would later appear in two more of his movies). To this day, the film stands as a complex and powerful piece that serves as a cautionary tale about careful investment choices.

‘Safe’ (2012)
In the movie titled “Safe“, various gangs are in conflict over Mei, a gifted young mathematician who possesses an extraordinary memory. Their aim is to exploit her abilities as a mental calculator and data bank to erase all traces of digital financial transactions. However, fate intervenes when ex-cage fighter Luke Wright (Jason Statham) uncovers this plot, prompting him to take action.
A Safe Pick
Among all the films Jason Statham made during the 2010s, this one stands out as the most cleverly crafted. Director Boaz Yakin should be applauded (and more) for his impressive work, and so should Statham, who often shines in roles where his character is tasked with safeguarding a child or spouse. Occasionally, Yakin pays tribute to the genre’s roots, but he skillfully adds his unique touch to this fast-paced action film.

‘Central Intelligence’ (2016)
Originally, Bob Stone (played by Dwayne Johnson) was a shy and scrawny high school student, but at his reunion party, he appears muscular. In contrast, Calvin Joyner (portrayed by Kevin Hart) was a popular athlete, but now works as an unfulfilled accountant. Interestingly, Stone turns out to be a CIA agent who enlists Calvin’s mathematical talents to aid him in resolving a significant espionage mystery. So, will these two former classmates find common ground in “Central Intelligence”?
A Winning Duo
Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart deliver fantastic movies as a team, which is unfortunate since they don’t work together more frequently. The film “Central Intelligence” stands out as an extraordinary performance by these two stars that will be remembered for a long time. This movie effortlessly combines action and humor, making listeners chuckle with some of the funniest dialogues ever heard.
The buddy movie’s quality was recognized through numerous award nominations, including two Critics’ Choice Awards.
3
‘Money Monster’ (2016)
Lee Gates, portrayed by George Clooney in the film “Money Monster,” presents himself as a financial expert on his TV program named “Money Monster.” On a live episode, an angry investor storms onto the set and captures Gates, alleging that he lost all his savings following advice given during the show. Now, it’s up to Gates to navigate through this predicament.
Overflowing Talent
In “Money Monster,” while the storyline might seem familiar to some viewers, the exceptional acting skills of the cast breathe new life into it. Notable actors like George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Giancarlo Esposito, among others, deliver performances that are intense and gripping. Every actor seems to be performing with a sense of urgency as if their lives were at stake. Moreover, the film’s portrayal of financial matters is detailed and accurate, making it an engaging watch for those who have some understanding of Wall Street.
2
‘Creed of Gold’ (2014)
As a passionate cinephile, let me share my take on the intriguing plot of “Creed of Gold.” In this gripping tale, I, college student Adam Smith (played by Taylor Lindsey), find myself unearthing a tangled web of corruption that leads directly to the U.S. Federal Reserve. As I delve deeper into the mystery, time and again, I seem to be one step closer to the truth. However, those responsible for this corruption soon realize the threat I pose and begin their relentless pursuit. Along my journey, a few enigmatic figures offer assistance (or complications) in my mind-bending quest for justice. Will I, against all odds, manage to accomplish my mission and bring the truth to light?
Killing Corruption
This clever action-packed thriller, marking a significant milestone for director Daniel Knudsen, aims to stand out, and largely succeeds. The movie is intricately plotted enough to captivate even the most casual spectator, and the action scenes are meticulously executed. Be prepared: You might not comprehend everything that transpires, but confusion has never been this entertaining.

‘G20’ (2025)
It’s always pleasant when we have a president who can handle tough situations effectively, and fortunately, that’s what we have in the G20. However, during the G20 summit in Cape Town, South Africa, a former Australian special forces officer named Edward Rutledge (Anthony Starr) finds himself in a precarious situation by taking world leaders hostage. His aim is to generate fake endorsements from them to influence cryptocurrency markets. Unfortunately for him, President Sutton (Viola Davis), being an Army veteran, thrives on such challenges.
The President Will Handle It
A pulse-pounding action-thriller in an classic style, the film “G20” may be short on logic but excels in multiple aspects: as a solo hero/heroine narrative, a deeply personal family saga, and a confoundingly intense hostage tale. The movie poses challenging, pertinent questions about global politics and the economy, all while delivering the standard adrenaline-fueled chase scenes. Standout performances elevate this Prime Video release into a top-tier production that keeps you on edge.
