Actor Delroy Lindo, set to appear in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade movie, spoke about the unfortunate collapse of the much-anticipated standalone film.
In November 2021, Lindo was initially chosen for an unspecified role in the movie Blade. However, this film continues to be a topic of concern when considering the potential future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as the release of the titular vampire hunter appears to be more distant than ever from happening alongside Earth’s strongest superheroes. This project was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.
After passing through various hands of directors, screenwriters, and potential release dates, it appears that the production of Blade might be indefinitely postponed, leaving us uncertain as to whether it will eventually materialize.
Blade’s Delroy Lindo Speaks on the MCU Film Going “Off the Rails”
In conversation with ComicBook, Delroy Lindo discussed the challenges that have arisen during the production process of Marvel Studio’s upcoming Blade film.
At first, when Marvel approached him, Lindo found the studio expressing genuine interest in his ideas, creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. As he looked forward to seeing the project unfold, he later confessed that things took an unexpected turn for the worse as the process progressed, ultimately derailing.
During my discussions with Marvel, they expressed a strong desire for my input and seemed focused on inclusivity. The idea was intriguing from the start, and it grew even more exciting as I spoke with producers, writers, and directors. However, for some reason, everything suddenly veered off course.
At the moment, Marvel Studios hasn’t announced a definitive cancellation for Blade, but it is lacking a scheduled release, a director, and a scriptwriter as of now.
Will Marvel Studios Ever Get Blade off the Ground?
Fans have been aware that Blade was being developed by Marvel Studios as early as San Diego Comic-Con 2019, and Mahershala Ali has been attached to play the character since then. Despite optimistic updates about the film throughout the years, it seems that fresh details are consistently moving the movie’s premiere date later.
Currently, it seems that if “Blade” is going to be produced at all, it would probably be scheduled for release as part of Marvel Studios’ movie lineup in Phase 7 following the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga in 2026. However, despite initial announcements six years ago, there has been no noticeable progress in terms of beginning production on the project thus far.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve picked up a tantalizing whisper from the reliable source, Daniel Richtman, suggesting that within the coming months, Marvel may choose to put a pause on both Blade and Armor Wars productions.
Furthermore, the anticipation among fans is growing with Wesley Snipes reprising his role as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, a move that received widespread acclaim and boosted box office sales. With fans eagerly awaiting the appearance of the Earth-616 Blade, the character’s status remains uncertain, leaving fans on edge about what might transpire next.
