Box Office: Michael B. Jordan’s Record-Setting Vampire Film Can’t Beat A Minecraft Movie, But Holiday Weekend Is A Major Win For Warner Bros.

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

In a thrilling box office clash, the highly anticipated film adaptation of Minecraft, titled “A Minecraft Movie“, has found itself facing off against the latest offering from director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan, “Sinners“. Making its grand entrance with a whopping $162.7 million debut at the domestic box office, “A Minecraft Movie” currently holds the record for the best opening weekend for any video game movie ever. Even in its second week, it managed to maintain the No. 1 position amidst a flurry of new releases such as “The King of Kings“, “Drop“, “Warfare“, and “The Amateur“. Now, “Sinners” aims to dethrone it from the top spot.

By this coming Saturday, according to predictions, the movie “Sinners” is expected to launch at the second spot on the domestic box office, with an estimated 3-day total of $40 million. This figure falls slightly short of the projected $45 million for “A Minecraft Movie,” which will continue its three-week reign at No.1. However, this opening weekend earnings for “Sinners” mark a record for the highest Easter opening weekend ever for an R-rated movie, surpassing the $33 million earned by “Panic Room” in 2002 directed by David Fincher. Additionally, it ranks as the 11th best Easter weekend debut of all time across all rating categories.

It’s significant to note that, just like these two films, both are productions under Warner Bros. Pictures. This implies that the studio has recovered from the less-than-stellar box office returns of their film “Mickey 17” directed by Bong Joon Ho, which earned $130.6 million, while its reported budget was $118 million.
