Wheel Of Time Season 4’s SHOCKING New Main Villain Revealed

Warning: Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 3, episode 8

In the finale of The Wheel of Time season 3, events unfold to set up Rahvin as a significant future adversary for the Dragon Reborn. This shift is due to Moghedien’s unexpected choice to eliminate Sammael. With this decision, Amazon’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time novels now features six Forsaken remaining, instead of the original 13 in the source material. Despite having fewer antagonists than initially planned, the series still has a rich pool of options for developing main villain narratives.

Among the six who remain unaccounted for, three have already manifested physically: Lanfear, Rahvin, and Moghedien. Although they haven’t directly appeared, Graendal and Semirhage are suspected to be at large. Characters like Demandred or Mesaana could potentially be the unidentified Forsaken in the series so far. Any of these characters might pose a danger to Rand in the upcoming season, but based on the show’s hints and novel events, it appears that Rahvin will be central to his next test.

Rand’s Story In The Fires Of Heaven Explained

Rand Battles Rahvin In The Sequel To The Book Season 3 Just Adapted

In essence, Season 3 largely followed the narrative of the fourth novel in The Wheel of Time series, titled “The Shadow Rising.” This book primarily focused on Rand’s journeys through the Aiel Waste. The season ended with Rand bringing together most of the Aiel clans, and the next book, “The Fires of Heaven,” continued from there. The storyline then explored the aftermath of Rand declaring himself the Car’a’carn and what many perceived as his destruction of the Aiel. This led to significant events such as Couladin and the Shaido crossing the Dragonwall. In pursuit, Rand found himself in Cairhein, where ultimately, Couladin was vanquished. However, a new danger emerged there – Rahvin.

Before Rand’s arrival, Rahvin’s storyline in “The Wheel of Time” had been slowly unfolding. In the third book, “The Dragon Reborn,” Mat discovered that “Lord Gaebril” was plotting to kill Elayne Trakand. Leveraging Compulsion to seize power and influence within Andor, Rahvin managed to orchestrate a plan where he deposed Morgase and claimed the Lion Throne for himself. Once he learned about this in Cairhein, Rand swiftly pursued him, culminating in a monumental confrontation in Caemlyn as the climax of book 5.

Rahvin’s Masterplan From The Books is Already In Development

Rahvin Is Currently Plotting To Seize The Lion Throne

It’s clear that the TV adaptation of Rahvin shares a similar sinister plan. In the third season of The Wheel of Time, we saw him unveiled initially as “Lord Gaebril,” but it wasn’t long before it was revealed that he’s been manipulating those around him through Compulsion. Just like Thom Merrilin suggested, he skillfully deceived Elayne into believing they had a long-standing relationship. His mastery of this power seems to be the key behind his rise as the queen’s consort, much like in the novels. During the third episode’s gathering of the Forsaken, Lanfear exposed his use of Compulsion and his power-grabbing schemes within Andor’s court.

In Season 3, the storyline for Rahvin didn’t make much progress, with him being mostly absent from the season. This mirrors the pace of his development in the books, where his rise was also slow and even his story was sidelined entirely in “The Shadow Rising”. However, it picked up again in “The Fires of Heaven”, as suggested by the ending of “The Wheel of Time” Season 3. Upon hearing Elayne mention “Lord Gaebril“, he suspected that this character was a Forsaken and warned her about the potential danger to Queen Morgase Trakand. As it turns out, Thom’s suspicions were correct, as events in “The Fires of Heaven” confirmed.

It appears that elements within Rahvin’s strategy correspond closely with events depicted in Jordan’s novel. Notably, during his dialogue with Elayne, Rahvin hinted at the removal of Gareth Bryne from his role as Captain-General. As we find in the books, removing Gareth Bryne was part of Rahvin’s plan to diminish significant factors influencing Morgase’s decision-making processes, thus paving the way for his broader scheme.

In my perspective as a fan, by disclosing Rahvin’s truth to Elayne within The Wheel of Time series, it sets the stage for one of its primary narratives to unfold in Caemlyn. So far, the show has overlooked Caemlyn as a setting for character arcs, but with Elayne having a reason to visit there, I anticipate this will change soon. As a significant location on The Wheel of Time’s map and a central point for various book stories, Caemlyn is primed to receive some long-awaited focus in season 4.

The Wheel Of Time Season 3 Hinted At Rahvin’s Plan For Rand

Rahvin May Try To Stop Rand From Getting Callandor

In the finale of “The Wheel of Time” season 3, Rand appears to be heading towards a confrontation with Rahvin rather than just Elayne. During a scene in Tel’aran’rhiod, Lanfear hinted at Rahvin that he might take advantage of an opportunity to surprise Rand at the Stone of Tear. Given that the Dragon Reborn is destined to visit this location to obtain Callandor, it makes sense that one of the Forsaken would set a trap for him there.

As a passionate movie buff diving into Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time,” I found that Rahvin, the book character, played no part in Rand’s quest for Callandor. Instead, it was two rogue characters – Be’lal and Ishamael – who posed obstacles. Unfortunately, Ishamael has met his demise, and Be’lal might not be significant enough to maintain the enigma surrounding the mysterious Forsaken. Consequently, it seems likely that a new character will take on the role as Rand’s adversary at the Stone of Tear.

In “The Wheel of Time,” Rahvin, who has shown readiness to ally with Lanfear against the Dragon Reborn, is currently the front runner for this alliance. If successful, this could draw Rand’s focus, potentially leading him to pursue Rahvin in Caemlyn, mirroring their climactic fight as depicted in “The Fires of Heaven.
