How Star Wars: Zero Company Aims To Replicate The Gritty Wartime Feel Of Rogue One And The Clone Wars

At Star Wars Celebration Japan, fresh information about Star Wars: Zero Company has been unveiled. A captivating aspect of this game lies in its backdrop, as the narrative of Zero Company unfolds amidst the Clone Wars. Although the galactic war has been extensively portrayed, Zero Company delves into the lesser-known tales of this conflict and the clandestine operations that were carried out. Thematically, it draws inspiration from Star Wars narratives like the Clone Wars animated series, Rogue One, and its prequel series Andor, as well as classic World War II films such as the Dirty Dozen.

In an interview with TopMob, Greg Foertsch, creative director at Bit Reactor, shared that “The Clone Wars provides us with numerous useful mechanical aspects for our game, which is fantastic.” He further noted that this game also offers something new and intriguing – a level of zoom not typically seen in The Clone Wars. This unique position provided a wealth of exciting opportunities from a design perspective, enabling them to craft an exceptional story with engaging mechanics. Essentially, it paved the way for us to explore numerous creative possibilities.

Orion Kellogg and Kelsey Sharpe from Lucasfilm Games mentioned that the Clone Wars era provided a diverse backdrop ripe with opportunities to create unique narratives. The intricate storytelling of The Clone Wars significantly impacted Zero Company, along with the gritty battlefield ambiance reminiscent of Rogue One. Additionally, movies like The Dirty Dozen served as inspiration for how the Zero Company squad is assembled. However, according to Sharpe, the original Star Wars film remains the primary inspiration for the game’s development.

In a more subdued manner, even amidst the complexities of the Clone Wars period, there’s always room for optimism, Sharpe noted. This optimism comes from the connections between your allies, the creation of legends, and these are the very essence of Star Wars. It is through these elements that we maintain a sense of continuity across all our narratives.

Star Wars: Zero Company will launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2026.
