In a conversation with WIVB, Tim Allen has shared some initial plot details for “Toy Story 5,” set to hit cinemas in June 2026 by Disney and Pixar. Allen will once again lend his voice to Buzz Lightyear, who plays a significant role in the film’s captivating opening scene. The storyline then shifts its focus, centering largely on Jessie, the cowgirl character we met in “Toy Story 2,” and whose distinctive voice belongs to Joan Cusack.
As a die-hard Toy Story fan, let me share with you that the fifth installment is primarily centered around our beloved Jessie. Woody and Tom (Hanks) undergo some significant changes in this movie, and there’s an astonishing opening sequence featuring Buzz Lightyear. I can reveal that much to you, but I’m afraid I can’t disclose any more details at the moment.
Last December, Allen shared with Collider that he had recently finished a five-hour recording session for “Buzz.” After a gap of five years since the release of “Toy Story 4,” he found it peculiar to rediscover his Buzz character’s voice again.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about the upcoming fifth installment! ” exceptionally smart” would be an understatement for this story. You might wonder if we’re doing another one? Honestly, I don’t think it’s all about the money. They certainly want success, but that’s not what drove them to make this film. If they didn’t have a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have even considered it, let alone called me and Tom [Hanks]. It’s truly ingenious!
Andrew Stanton is leading the production of “Toy Story 5,” a movie where Buzz, Woody, and their fellow toys confront the new electronic playthings that today’s children are fascinated by. Stanton has contributed to the screenplay for all Toy Story films and received Oscars for his exceptional work on Pixar productions “Finding Nemo” and “Wall-E.
Despite concerns that “Toy Story 5” might be a money-making venture, the series has consistently surpassed expectations. Just like “Toy Story 4”, it initially sparked worries about being a cash grab but ended up receiving critical acclaim and earning over $1 billion globally. At its debut, it held the record for the biggest animated film launch ever with $244.5 million and even won an Oscar for best animated feature. Similarly, “Toy Story 3” won an Oscar and grossed more than a billion dollars.
“Toy Story 5” is scheduled for release on June 19, 2026 from Disney.
