Jennifer Lopez Joins Oscar-Winner Robert Zemeckis for Gripping New Netflix Thriller

It’s said that the filmmaker who won an Oscar for movies such as “Forrest Gump,” “Cast Away,” and “Back to the Future” is rumored to be working with Jennifer Lopez on his upcoming production. According to reports, Robert Zemeckis, who last directed “Welcome to Marwen,” is set to partner with Lopez for an adaption of “The Last Mrs. Parrish,” a 2017 bestseller by Liv Constantine. This project is currently in the works.

In this movie, titled “The Last Mrs. Parrish,” Lopez portrays a cunning imposter who intends to swindle the affluent couple, the Parrishes. Her character befriends the wife and charms the husband, all with an ultimate goal of replacing her as Mrs. Parrish. However, she soon uncovers that the wife’s life is more tangled than initially perceived. This book was a selection for Reese Witherspoon’s book club and has been sold over a million times.

The Movie Will Be Written by an Oscar-Nominee

The movie adaptation of “The Last Mrs. Parrish” is being scripted by Andrea Berloff and Academy Award nominee John Gatins. Previously, Gatins wrote the screenplay for the 2012 film “Flight,” which was directed by Zemeckis and earned Gatins an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 2013. Producing “The Last Mrs. Parrish” are Liza Chasin for 3dot Productions, Molly Sims for Something Happy Productions, as well as Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina for Nuyorican Productions. Lopez and Zemeckis Have Been Busy

Previously, Lopez collaborated with Netflix for the action-thriller “The Mother” (2023) and the movie “Kiss of the Spiderwoman,” directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon (“Beauty and the Beast”). This year, “Kiss of the Spiderwoman” made its debut at Sundance. It’s an adaptation of a 1992 musical with the same name, derived from Manuel Puig’s 1976 novel. Diego Luna, who is known for his role in “Andor,” co-stars alongside Lopez in this film, which takes place in an Argentinian prison in 1981. Recently, Lopez played a significant role in another project.

In 2024, Robert Zemeckis brought together stars Robin Wright and Tom Hanks for a film titled “Here.” The movie was a heartfelt tale set in a single location, yet it traversed multiple generations. Last year, this production received the Founder’s Award at the Chicago Film Festival. Recently, Zemeckis has been asked about the possibility of revisiting the Back to the Future series.

A Musical Version of Back to the Future?

Zemeckis expressed his interest in creating a movie adaptation of “Back to the Future: The Musical.” He even proposed the idea to Universal, but they didn’t seem interested. In his words, “I’d love to make Back to the Future: The Musical (movie). It’s like The Producers. I think it would be fantastic, but unfortunately, the people at Universal don’t see its potential, so there’s not much I can do about it.

No word on any other cast members or a premiere date for The Last Mrs. Parrish.
