Ben Affleck ‘Hated’ Suiting Up to Play Batman: ‘The Batsuits Are Horrendous to Wear … They Don’t Breathe’

Playing Batman, with its demanding costume, must surely take quite a toll. Ben Affleck candidly shared insights into the challenges he faced while donning the Batsuit, revealing to GQ the grueling physical strain it entailed.

Affleck expressed his dislike for the Batsuits, stating they were uncomfortable and poorly designed. He mentioned that they are hot, don’t allow proper ventilation, and prioritize aesthetics over comfort. This results in excessive sweating, as he already tends to sweat a lot. In the Batsuit, he would be constantly drenched with water.

Affleck added, “It posed challenges when filming the movie since you’re incredibly warm. Additionally, it didn’t give off a heroic vibe because fatigue and sweatiness set in quickly,” he joked. “Perhaps Christian [Bale] or Rob [Pattinson], those types of men, handled it better.

In various films like “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “The Flash,” “Justice League,” and the extended version titled “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” Ben Affleck portrayed the characters Bruce Wayne (also known as) Batman.

The Batsuit has faced criticism in the past, with its design drawing particular objections from the original director, Tim Burton. In a 2022 interview with Empire, he criticized the “Batnipple” suit worn by George Clooney in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman & Robin.

Burton expressed his frustration by saying, “Hold up a moment. Let me get this straight. You criticize me for being too eccentric, too mysterious, and then you add nipples to the costume? Have it on your own head!” He was referring to the excessive embellishments on the new suit as a parallel to past stylistic disputes that resulted in him leaving the franchise.
