Korean Crime Thriller ‘Nine Puzzles’ Set at Disney+

Disney Plus expands its Korean content offerings by introducing “Nine Puzzles,” a thought-provoking crime drama featuring the talented actors Kim Dami from “Itaewon Class” and Son Sukku from “Big Bet.

The 11-episode show revolves around Yoon Ena, a high school student who finds her uncle’s dead body with a single jigsaw piece nearby. At first suspected, Ena resurfaces ten years later as a criminal profiler, and she is drawn back into a fresh wave of killings – all the victims linked by puzzle pieces reminiscent of those at her uncle’s crime scene.

I’m part of an exciting series that showcases a wealth of talented Koreans beyond its main actors. In this role, I’m Police Captain Yang Jungho, portrayed by Kim Sungkyun, who you might recognize from “Moving” and “The Fiery Priest”. Also joining us is Hyun Bongsik as Junior Detective Choi San, an actor known for his roles in “When Life Gives You Tangerines” and “Gangnam B-Side”. Behind the scenes, the acclaimed director Yoon Jongbin, of “Narco Saints”, takes charge, while the script comes from Lee Eunmi, a writer behind both “Tunnel” and “Navillera”.

Starting from May 21, the initial six episodes will be released simultaneously on Disney+ for international audiences. For viewers based in the U.S., they can enjoy the content via Hulu on the same date.

In my humble opinion, “Nine Puzzles” is another captivating addition to Disney+’s expanding collection of Korean productions, which have already garnered significant acclaim this year with the gripping investigative thriller “Unmasked” and the riveting medical drama “Hyper Knife.” Interestingly, “Hyper Knife” holds the distinction of being Disney+’s most-watched Korean premiere globally in 2025. As a movie enthusiast, I am eager to see where this trend takes us!

Disney+ is set to increase its investment in Korean content, with anticipated releases in 2025 such as the adventure-filled drama “Low Life,” starring Ryu Seungryong, and the global thriller series “Tempest,” which stars Jun Gianna, Gang Dongwon, John Cho, and Michael Gaston.

Disney Plus serves as a specialized platform for streaming films and series from brands like Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. In certain global regions, it additionally offers content from the general entertainment brand, Star.
