In simple terms, Michael Shannon, who famously portrayed Zod in the 2013 film “Man of Steel” and will appear in “The Flash”, has been added to the cast for Skydance Sports’ upcoming movie about John Tuggle, also known as Mr. Irrelevant.
In the upcoming football drama yet-to-be-titled, Shannon is set to portray the iconic coach Bill Parcells. This movie revolves around former NFL player John Tuggle, who became known as “Mr. Irrelevant” when he was selected as the last pick of the last round in the 1983 NFL Draft. Interestingly, Shannon is set to play Tuggle himself in October 2024. Recently, he took on an unspecified role.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that I, along with director Jonathan Levine, will be bringing the story of Reacher to life in an upcoming biopic. Known for his work on quirky rom-zoms like “Warm Bodies” and comedies starring Seth Rogen such as “50/50”, “The Night Before”, and “Long Shot”, Levine will be at the helm, ensuring a unique and entertaining take on this much-loved character. I’ll be working alongside him as both screenwriter and producer for this project, making it a true labor of love for us cinephiles.
The upcoming biographical film, currently unnamed, focusing on “Mr. Irrelevant,” will share the moving and genuine true account of Tuggle, who was picked up by the New York Giants. This story highlights his significant and lasting influence on his teammates and the team itself. During the time when Tuggle joined the Giants, Parcells, a Hall of Fame coach, played a crucial role in giving this player an opportunity, significantly impacting the team’s decision to take a chance on him.
Superman and Zod Will Work Together in Mr. Irrelevant Biopic
Fans of comic books will get to witness an unusual partnership between Superman and Zod in the Skydance Sports biopic, a film that will be dramatically different from the usual superhero narrative. Although Shannon has an extensive resume, the role of Superman will be Corenswet’s most significant to date. Known previously for his performances on Netflix series like “The Politician” and “Hollywood,” as well as movies such as “Pearl” and “Twisters,” this film is expected to catapult him into the limelight.
Previously in February, Corenswet discussed taking over the role from Henry Cavill, who co-starred with Shannon in “Man of Steel,” as the renowned DC character. He mentioned that “Playing Superman is about its grandeur and physical challenges. It’s two sides of one person, a dichotomy shaped by circumstances, surroundings, and secrets.” He continued, “I strive to deliver my best for the director, the team who have given their all for months or even years. If I succeed for them, I believe I’ve done everything I can.
In the initial encounter between Superman (played by Cavill) and a villain, it was Shannon’s Zod. Contrastingly, in Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” film, Corenswet’s Clark Kent/Kal-El is already established as the Man of Steel in Metropolis. Yet, this doesn’t imply that the DC Universe movie will lack adversaries entirely; Lex Luthor (portrayed by Nicholas Hoult) is scheduled to make an appearance, serving as the primary antagonist, though not the only one.
Superman hits theaters on July 11, while the Mr. Irrelevant biopic has not yet been dated.
