The original Marvel family makes their comeback in the latest preview for “Marvel Studios Presents: The Fantastic Four – Initial Journey.
In this production, Pedro Pascal takes on the role of Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), while Vanessa Kirby portrays Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman). Joseph Quinn is cast as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach steps into the part of Ben Grimm (the Thing). The supporting characters include Ralph Ineson as Galactus, a planet-consuming antagonist, Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich.
Stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, “The Fantastic Four: First Footprints” is my take on the iconic superhero squad, following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its properties, including the X-Men. Rest assured, this film focuses solely on the Four without any guest appearances from other Marvel heroes (unless we’re dealing with some intriguing multiverse shenanigans). The story unfolds in an alternate, retro-futuristic 1960s Manhattan, where they seem to be the city’s sole superheroes for now.
Prior to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, two different groups of Fantastic Four characters were portrayed on the big screen. In the 2000s, Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis took on these roles in two films. However, a disappointing reboot in 2015 introduced Miles Teller, Kata Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell as the superheroes.
Or,
Two different incarnations of the Fantastic Four were presented in movies by 20th Century Fox before Disney took over the company. In the 2000s, Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis portrayed the heroes in two films. Unfortunately, a remake in 2015 featured Miles Teller, Kata Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell as the superheroes.
Previously, the Fantastic Four have been subtly referenced within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” John Krasinski made a brief appearance as Mister Fantastic, only to meet a gruesome end, and Chris Evans, famously known for his role as Captain America in the MCU, resurfaced as the Human Torch in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” ultimately suffering a similar tragic fate.
