In simple terms, the initial themed season for League of Legends, known as “Welcome to Noxus,” is nearing its end. Riot Games has revealed that the upcoming Season 2, named “Spirit Blossom Beyond,” will introduce alterations to the Summoner’s Rift map and overall gameplay, a new champion, various Spirit Blossom skins, and an entirely fresh game mode called “Brawl.
As a passionate gamer immersed in the League of Legends universe, I can’t help but feel exhilarated about the return of the beloved Spirit Blossom skin line. This theme, inspired by the rich Ionian mythology and tradition connected to the Spirit Blossom celebrations, never fails to captivate me. Recently, Riot Games unveiled this season’s motif with a stunning cinematic titled “Here, Tomorrow,” a collaboration between Riot and The Line that showcases anime-inspired visuals. To top it off, the production is accompanied by an original track from the talented Lilas Ikuta and composer Kevin Penkin.
The music video intertwines the actual world of Ionia and its spirit realm twin, showcasing well-known characters like Ashe, Nidalee, Lux, Shen, Irelia, and Morgana. The main character is Xin Zhao who appears to be making a comeback in Ionia, hinting at the introduction of the new champion Yunara for this season. The narrative of Xin Zhao will unfold throughout the season, with the premiere of the first of two motion comics set for May 14th. Additionally, Riot Games has indicated that we can anticipate a game-within-the-game, based on this season’s storyline, within the client.
Starting April 30, Season 2 brings in Spirit Blossom Beyond, a transformation for Summoner’s Rift that extends beyond cosmetic changes to gameplay adjustments affecting the overall meta. In this new season, Atakhan assumes a single form, Thornbound Atakhan, instead of alternating between two. Void Grubs will make their appearance later in the game and only once per match, while the Rift Herald will appear at 15 minutes and be more manageable to defeat.
Starting with Season 2, exclusively jungle champions will receive the Smite summoner spell by default, as they take on this role. Other adjustments and fine-tuning updates are also being introduced with the new season, which the developers have outlined in their latest developer blog post.
The upcoming season will introduce a fresh game mode called “Brawl” in a 5v5 setup. Riot Games refers to this as a quicker, less pressure-filled game mode that prioritizes combat. In Brawl, there’s no towers or other objectives to capture; instead, players must engage directly with each other and drive their minions towards the enemy base. The action takes place on a new map inspired by Bandle City.
It’s no surprise that the upcoming Spirit Blossom-themed season will introduce a fresh batch of Spirit Blossom skins, a well-liked collection with more than 20 distinct champions. This time, Ashe, Irelia, Bard, Varus, Zyra, and Ivern are set to receive the Spirit Blossom treatment. Players can earn Prestige Spirit Blossom Lux and Spirit Blossom Ivern through the paid battle pass. Additionally, Riot has hinted at a new Exalted skin for Morgana in the pipeline.
Starting on April 30th, Spirit Blossom Beyond will take center stage, temporarily replacing the ongoing Noxian-themed season in League of Legends universe. Yet, it’s only a matter of time before we revisit Noxus, as the next Arcane spin-off series is expected to focus on that region. Moreover, Arcane co-creator Christian Linke hinted that future installments of the show will delve into the stories of Ionia and Demacia as well.
