I, as a strong advocate for truthful news reporting, have criticized CNN and MSNBC for what I perceive as distorted news coverage regarding the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia‘s deportation. I believe they have not presented the facts accurately.
On Wednesday, Carr expressed his opinions on X regarding how Comcast outlets were handling the Garcia case, in response to a post made by Steven Cheung, a White House director of communications assistant.
As a film enthusiast, I’ve been dismayed by how Comcast outlets have spun tales for days, painting Abrego Garcia as an upstanding U.S. citizen, just your typical ‘Maryland man.’ However, when the truth finally surfaced, they chose to overlook it. It’s no secret that under federal law, licensed Comcast operations are obligated to serve the public interest. Distorting news simply doesn’t meet this standard.
He went on to say, “Abrego Garcia entered America without legal permission from El Salvador, got recognized as a part of the violent MS-13 gang – a transnational criminal group – and was refused bond by an immigration court because he couldn’t prove he wouldn’t be a threat to others. Why does Comcast choose to disregard these significant facts that are clearly relevant to public safety?
Comcast did not immediately respond to EbMaster‘s request for comment.
Carr implies that his accusation of “news distortion” could lead him to file a complaint with the FCC against Comcast or MSNBC, given his ongoing conflict with CBS over an interview of Kamala Harris on “60 Minutes” last October. However, it’s important to note that the FCC has less power to regulate content on cable networks like MSNBC compared to broadcast TV stations owned by CBS.
Garcia, who is both a father and a husband, found himself at the center of a media whirlwind following his abrupt deportation from the U.S. to a Salvadoran prison in March. The Department of Justice claims this was due to an “administrative mistake.
