Currently, there’s buzz about the upcoming release of an indie game titled Bionic Bay on April 17th. It’s a 2D puzzle platformer, immersed in a dystopian sci-fi setting with a contrasting blend of darkness and vibrant colors. As of now, it has garnered a score of 92 on OpenCritic, making it the highest-rated game of 2025 so far. Interestingly enough, this follows closely after another indie gem, Blue Prince, which also topped the review charts just over a week ago.
Sorry Blue Prince, Bionic Bay is the new best reviewed game of 2025
As a die-hard gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled about my upcoming adventure in “Bionic Bay,” the debut game from the talented minds at Psychoflow Studio and Mureena Oy, in collaboration with Kepler Interactive – the same publisher behind indie successes like Pacific Drive and Sifu, as well as the highly anticipated Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This intriguing title promises a thrilling journey through a sci-fi landscape, where I’ll need to master a variety of powers to navigate a perilous mechanical ruin teeming with lasers, spinning blades, and other hazards.
One intriguing power that catches my eye is the ability to swap places with an object, a skill shown frequently in the trailer. With seemingly limitless creative possibilities, I can’t wait to witness the amazing gameplay clips that will emerge once the wider gaming community gets their hands on this exciting title!
As I pen this down, Bionic Bay stands at an impressive 92/100 on OpenCritic, based on nine reviews. However, with additional opinions pouring in, its leading position might be challenged. This is similar to what transpired with another recent indie game, Blue Prince, which started with a 92 on OpenCritic but has now slipped slightly below other top games of 2025 like Split Fiction and Monster Hunter: Wilds. While the significant sites usually publish their reviews on both OpenCritic and Metacritic, Bionic Bay, while maintaining a high score, is currently at 86 on Metacritic.
Besides the teleportation feature, players will additionally have the ability to manipulate time, alter gravity, and release an explosive force to move objects rapidly. This sounds like a thrilling and imaginative way to traverse a world, but Bionic Bay offers more than just a solo adventure. Although the main gameplay is single-player and narrative-driven, there’s also a multiplayer racing mode where it appears that at least eight players can race each other on the same challenge simultaneously.
Tomorrow marks the release of the game “Bionic Bay”, but if you can’t wait or want to test it out before purchase, there’s a free demo available on Steam. I’m not completely certain, but the demo might disappear once the full game launches. Regardless, it’s possible. The game “Bionic Bay” will be playable on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam starting April 17th, 2025.
