In simple terms, Season 15 of Overwatch 2 brings a significant shift for the game, with one of its most significant revelations being the upcoming Stadium mode. Although this mode isn’t out yet, players are already intrigued by hints from the announcement materials. Most notably, it seems to suggest details about Hero 45 – a character fans have been excitedly anticipating for some time.

At present, it’s confirmed that Freja will be part of Overwatch 2 during Season 16, and there’s been a sneak peek into the hero of Season 18, codenamed “Aqua.” With these additions, the hero count will reach 44. So, mathematically speaking, Hero 45 is the next big character to be introduced, and we might now get our first glimpse of who they could be.

During the ongoing playtest for Overwatch 2’s upcoming game mode, Stadium, players have discovered an intriguing detail on the Arena Victoriae map. A poster depicts a figure with a large sword in silhouette, and this same sword is also prominently displayed elsewhere within the map. This suggests quite strongly that Character 45, who will be joining Overwatch 2, may focus primarily on melee combat.

For some time now, enthusiasts have been pondering over Hero 45, expressing a desire for a fresh melee character, similar to Reinhardt but possibly quicker or more assertive. Given the sword’s recurring appearance in the setting and its design, it appears that the developers might have taken this suggestion into account.

It’s even more revealing to look at what’s hidden under the swords: Roman numerals XLV, which mean 45. This seems to suggest that the figure depicted on the Arena Victoriae map is indeed Hero 45. Given the current release schedule, it’s probable that this new hero will be introduced in Season 20, after Aqua’s debut in Season 18; however, Blizzard hasn’t disclosed the specific timeline as of now.

It seems there’s quite a bit about this character that hasn’t been revealed yet, but based on what we see, the hints are intriguing. The figure appears to be a woman, and her name is “Lu Lupa,” which means “She Wolf” in Latin. A wolf symbol adorns the hilt of her sword, suggesting she could be a new female melee character. Could this character be another tough-as-nails type like Junker Queen? Absolutely, I can’t wait to find out more!

Based on the current rotation of roles for the heroes – Freja as a DPS and Aqua as a Support – it seems reasonable to anticipate that Hero 45 will likely function as a Tank. However, keep in mind that there’s still much development ahead before the hero is officially unveiled, so things may change. But considering what we know now, it appears that Hero 45 could be making an appearance soon and might be the next melee tank fans have been eagerly anticipating.
