Although Space Marine 2’s peak popularity has passed (with approximately 220,000 concurrent players at its height), the game remains relevant and draws thousands of players daily. This number has increased recently with the release of the new update, called Trygon. Many players were anticipating a horde mode, but instead, they received a new PvE mission, The Inferno Pistol, and long-awaited Space Wolves cosmetics (available as a separate buyable DLC). However, there’s another change that has caused some issues for players – it appears unnoticed by many. Numerous gamers have reported connection troubles and malfunctioning matchmaking, which might be related to the update itself.
SM2 Trygon update changes how matchmaking works
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed a shift in the matchmaking system since the SM2 The Trygon update. From what I gather from the patch notes, there have been two significant adjustments that might be causing some disruption:
1. Enemy team composition balance has been tweaked to ensure fairness.
2. Adjustments have been made to skill rating calculations to better match players with similar abilities.
These changes could potentially explain the perceived issues in matchmaking quality, as it seems the system is now pairing me with opponents who seem to be playing at a different level than before.

Considering this, It’s plausible that some issues might have arisen because of the introduction of these new features. For instance, players using popular classes may struggle to find matches due to increased competition for each slot. Similarly, PvP matchmaking could become more selective now.
Indeed, making adjustments to critical systems might lead to some purely technical glitches, such as connection instability, which is likely why these issues have occurred. Although these are just speculations and we need to wait for the official statement, they seem quite reasonable. Regardless of what’s causing the problems, let’s hope they get resolved quickly.
