In the fourth episode of Season 6 in “The Handmaid’s Tale”, we were introduced to Timothy Simons’ character for the first time, who is a High Commander. However, despite his position, there’s a straightforward explanation why he doesn’t present a significant danger – instead, another recently arrived individual should raise our concerns more.
In the last episode of the Hulu series, Serena and June find themselves on distinct journeys following their split in the initial episode.
As Serena manages New Bethlehem, which is now more open to foreign ties with Gilead, June goes back to Mayday to finally take down her captors for good.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m excitedly tagging along with Joseph Lawrence, newly appointed as a High Commander in the newest installment of our favorite game. During his swearing-in ceremony, he encounters the fresh character introduced by Simon – an encounter that promises to add another layer of excitement to my gaming experience!
Don’t worry about Timothy Simons’ The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 character
a fellow High Commander and a character with a sinister side. He manages to persuade Lawrence to go to Jezebels, supposedly for a celebration. However, once there, he humiliates and degrades Janine instead.
Indeed, he poses a danger to any woman within reach given his present position of authority and the harsh treatment he metes out to them. However, it’s not likely that he will present a significant obstacle in the grand scheme of Mayday’s strategies in the long term.
In a brief initial appearance, he appears haughty, narrow-minded, and wholly self-centered, traits often found to be most vulnerable in horror films, making them easy targets for elimination.
Additionally, due to his abhorrent beliefs, he has garnered numerous adversaries, not just from the women at Jezebel’s, but also from fellow commanders such as Lawrence.
Furthermore, the matter of his introduction in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 raises a question about his potential lifespan, as it might imply that he’s not designed for a long run.
The key hint we have is that June, Moira, and Luke discover Mayday’s scheme to eliminate the most radical leaders – this plot seemingly involves penetrating and assaulting a location, Jezebels, which appears to be a regular haunt for Simons’ character.
It appears his days are numbered, not that he’d know it.
Do worry about High Commander Wharton
The character who warrants more attention in our minds might be Rose’s father, the newly introduced High Commander Wharton, joining the cast for Season 6.
On first appearances, he seems diplomatic, a family man… nice even. But we know he’s not.
Now, he’s creating challenges for Nick, keeping a keen watch over him in New Bethlehem. Born as one of Jacob’s sons, it’s evident that he continues to adhere firmly to those original fundamentalist beliefs, expressing reservations about the recent changes.
Despite this, he has shown backing for Serena’s autonomy, remarking about Fred Waterford that “a more honorable person would have nurtured your power.
Instead of Simons’ persona being boisterous and impulsive, Wharton stands as the polar opposite: reserved, intelligent, and much more strategically-minded. Should their partnership with Serena expand, it’s hard not to view them as a potentially troubling pair in regards to the Mayday rebellion.
