Toy and Media Maker Spin Master Hires Warner Bros. Veteran Maryellen Zarakas as Head of Franchise, Consumer Products (EXCLUSIVE)

Spin Master, the company that manages toys and media, including popular brands such as Unicorn Academy and the renowned Rubik’s Cube, has appointed a new head for their franchise and product division.

Maryellen Zarakas, an experienced professional from Warner Bros. and its successive proprietors throughout the years, has taken on a new role at Spin Master as Senior Vice President for Global Consumer Products and Franchise Development. In her new position, Zarakas will report directly to Jennifer Dodge, the president of Spin Master Entertainment.

According to Dodge, Maryellen is an experienced senior executive with extensive knowledge in international business development, franchise creation, brand development, marketing strategies, and retail merchandising. Notably, she is enthusiastic about utilizing the synergy between content, community, and commerce, and has a history of promoting growth.

Zarakas leaves Warner Bros. Discovery after serving as head of a global team responsible for strategic expansion across intellectual property and selling consumer goods. Her areas of focus included Harry Potter, Looney Toons, Scooby-Doo, parts of Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” franchise, as well as characters from Disney’s princesses, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, and “Toy Story.” Previously, she held several positions at The Walt Disney Company, where she worked in product and brand management for their collection of fairytale heroines and classic characters.

At Spin Master, Zarakas will additionally manage licensing, retail expansion, and collaborative partnerships aimed at expanding brands such as Vida the Vet and Toca Boca as well.
