Ellen Pompeo has been a mainstay on “Grey’s Anatomy” ever since its premiere in 2005, and it seems that she intends to continue her role for quite some time yet.
Despite reduced appearances on the ABC medical drama since 2022 as her character, Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Ellis has clarified that she doesn’t plan to leave the show permanently.
Pompeo clarified to El País that it would be irrational, both emotionally and financially speaking, given that the show was viewed over a billion times in 2024. He emphasized that the companies responsible for owning and broadcasting the show generate significant revenue from using our images, voices, and likenesses.

Pompeo told El País that it wouldn’t make sense, either emotionally or financially, considering the show was streamed over a billion times in 2024. He highlighted that the corporations controlling the show and its distribution reap substantial profits from using our likenesses, voices, and faces.
Pompeo stated, ‘If I were to leave altogether, others would reap the benefits of my years of labor without me seeing any returns, while they’d continue to make money.’ To him, it seems illogical that everyone profits from his efforts. Moreover, on an emotional level, the show holds significant value for many, and he wishes to express gratitude towards it.”

“Pompeo said, ‘If I were gone forever, others would cash in on my decades of effort without me seeing any profit, while they’d still be making money.’ To him, it doesn’t make sense that everyone profits from his hard work. Furthermore, the show holds special meaning for many, and he wants to remain appreciative towards it.
Produced by Shonda Rhimes and Michelle Lirtzman, the long-running medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” has aired 444 episodes as of April 10 and is currently in its 21st season. Over the course of the show’s ten years on air, cast members have joined and left, but some of the most memorable actors from Grey’s include Sandra Oh, Patrick Dempsey, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Kevin McKidd, Justin Chambers, Jesse Williams, Sara Ramirez, Jessica Capshaw, and Eric Dane.
In another part of the conversation, Pompeo explained her reasons for signing up for the Hulu mini-series titled “Good American Family.
She mentioned that since it’s a limited series, we likely won’t see her in this role again,” she explained. “What intrigued me about this opportunity was the chance to explore something completely distinct from Meredith Grey.
