On Sunday evening, “The Last of Us” made its comeback on HBO, attracting a whopping 5.3 million viewers during the debut of its second season.
The viewership saw a 13% surge compared to the Season 1 debut, which attracted 4.7 million viewers back in January 2023. This figure encompasses both the audience measured by Nielsen through linear viewing on HBO’s cable channel and Warner Bros. Discovery’s records of streaming viewers on Max.
Under the leadership of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, “The Last of Us” was an instant hit for HBO when it premiered, garnering impressive ratings. Not only did it become the second-most watched HBO premiere in over a decade, but its viewership swelled to 5.7 million with Episode 2, marking HBO’s largest ever increase between the first and second episode of any series. The show continued to captivate audiences throughout the season, consistently attracting more viewers each week before peaking with a record-breaking 8.2 million viewers for its finale.
