It’s not surprising that a Minecraft film has been one of the top-grossing movies of 2025, and it looks like a follow-up is in development. Mike De Luca, who works as an executive at Warner Bros., has recently spoken about the potential sequel.
He shared with Deadline that Warner Bros. is set to release a follow-up to the movie “A Minecraft” and also a sequel to “Beetlejuice” soon, according to his statement.
“The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently,” De Luca said.
Director Jared Hess, known for his work on a Minecraft film, shared with Deadline that crafting a sequel would be an absolute blast. He emphasized that the boundless universe of Minecraft offers numerous opportunities for additional tales to unfold.
He mentioned that there were numerous aspects we didn’t explore that we wished we had, he expressed. If given the chance, I would thoroughly enjoy working on the next installment, as it appears discussions about it are already underway, which makes me incredibly excited. The prospect of returning to this world is exhilarating. Fans are really enjoying themselves with it. We hinted at more in the end credits, and it seems that fans can’t get enough!
In a possible sequel, the storyline might revolve around the character Alex, who was hinted at being subjected to bullying at the movie’s conclusion. It is suggested that Steve, portrayed by Jack Black, could be part of this continuation.
The Movie based on Minecraft has already earned over $550 million worldwide, placing it as the second highest-grossing video game film ever made. As time goes by, there’s a good chance it will rise even further in earnings, although whether it can surpass The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.3 billion) is still uncertain.
