Nintendo’s latest Zelda Notes app offers a method to mend your broken gear in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom for Switch 2; however, this feature depends on luck. The repair functionality for weapons is linked to the daily bonus feature within the free application, which grants you a random item or effect every day.
Nintendo showcased this feature in one of their extended Treehouse Live broadcasts following the Switch 2 Direct presentation, and it was seen that the bonus roulette included benefits like meal enhancements, energy-cell rejuvenation, and stamina restoration. However, Zelda YouTube content creator Zeltik noticed two extra perks during gameplay sessions with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom’s Switch 2 prototypes – equipment maintenance and bow repair.
During Zeltik’s demonstration, the roulette didn’t stop on either number, leaving us unsure about how the repair bonus operates exactly. While “bow repair” is straightforward, implying it will fix a bow, “equipment repair” isn’t as clear-cut. Since Link has other equipment like shields and breakable weapons in both games, we don’t know yet which kind of gear this repair might be for.
Regardless of circumstances, the Zelda Notes app allows you to utilize the daily bonus feature just once every real-world day. The outcome is entirely random too. Although the repair feature is beneficial, it won’t change the weapon and item degradation system fundamentally, and it may take multiple days before the bonus feature lands on it even once. Important to note, this app functions exclusively for the upgraded Switch 2 version of each game; if you’re playing on the original Switch, you won’t find the daily bonus option available at all.
In June 5, 2025, both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s and Tears of the Kingdom’s versions for Switch 2 will be released simultaneously with the console itself. For those who currently own these games on the original Switch, either physically or digitally, Nintendo is providing an option to upgrade at a cost. However, those with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription can enjoy the upgrades without any additional fees. Nintendo will also offer individual Switch 2 editions of each game priced at $80 each, but neither version includes DLC.
